Be a hotel chain. > Notice check-in takes four minutes > Spend millions rolling out mobile check-in to get it under a minute > Shorter lines. Lower payroll. Everyone celebrates > Six months later, room upgrades and spa bookings are down > Hire a consulting firm to "reimagine the guest journey" > Spend another few million > Consultants recommend a personalized welcome experience where staff talk to guests, learn their preferences and offer relevant upgrades > Roll out the new initiative > Check-in now takes four minutes Everyone celebrates.

This is one of the most detrimental programs ever approved and forced on APD. Cadets are told they’re racist before they ever even learn to be an officer or start the academy. They prohibit sworn instructors from being in a class to hear what’s being said. A known repeat offender and anti-APD individual was allowed to attend and was seen taking pictures of rosters that included officer’s name and dates of birth. Presenters have showed up intoxicated. When officers were required to take the class and attempted to have open conversations - a mixed race officer was told they weren’t black enough to have an opinion. This contract should have been cancelled a long time ago.
Austin is paying racial-equity consultants to lecture its cops about racism -- about $3.56 million to date -- and to stop rejecting cadets with bad credit and evictions, and to fast-track black officers into command. One APD commander was thrown out after he refused to agree to her workshop's premises about systemic racism. She calls the workshop a "revolutionary exploration into how systems of racism work." APD cadets take this critical race theory course in their first two weeks at the academy. She told APD to: - Create a short-term career ladder to put more black Americans in leadership positions - Rethink hiring disqualifiers like bad credit and evictions through a racial-equity lens - Expand her training department-wide The city has been cutting her checks as recently as February of this year. APD has about 300 vacant officer positions.

She’s a chronic cheat. Does this every chance she gets. Has also given out food and drinks at early voting locations and ran away when confronted. This is who she is. Status quo Selina would fit right in with this Council.
It seems Austin D8 candidate Selena Xie appeared in her EMS uniform at a political event—violating state law & city rules. Shown with CMs Mike Siegel & Ryan Alter, & @WalkableAustin. Greg claims this photo was 6 months ago, "before she ran," but Xie launched June 2025. 🧐

A dark day for democracy to attack journalists for reporting. Textbook fascism. Real dark stuff. Troubling. Freedom died a little today.
At a rally in Soldotna today, US Senate candidate Mary Peltola said the media’s focus should be on Alaska’s high cost of living and Sen. Sullivan’s support of the war in Iran — not who is on the ballot. “Nobody at the New York Times cares about affordability in Alaska.”

City of Austin gave $65,275 to a company called “Radical Humaning” run by an anti-police activist who calls herself “unapologetically black, queer, fat & brilliant.” Nakia Winfield is an antiracism trainer and “political social worker” who examines power through an “anti-oppressive lens.” In 2020 she co-wrote something that backed the movement to defund or abolish police. The city contract was for a “partner summit” and a “leadership retreat,” and it was originally listed at $28,000 and somehow more than doubled.

City Hall is diverting some $8.5 million per year in ACL Festival revenue from the city budget to a private foundation, out of view where it can escape public scrutiny and accountability. Yet the Council majority will whine about a budget shortfall and raise the tax rate to the legal max, then have the gall to ask the voters to approve $260 million in park bonds two years ahead of schedule. Meanwhile, only a paltry $103,500 actually hits the City’s books, under a 15-year agreement signed behind closed doors. Who can trust these people anymore? substack.com/@district8dispa…

Candidate Jeff Bowen writes the City has been routing ~$8.5M a year in ACL money to a private foundation while only booking ~$103k for the city itself. Parks look broke. So they’re asking voters for a $260M bond. The real money never hits the city’s books. Taxpayers still get the bill - ridiculous. district8dispatch.substack.c…
Lots of stories this week regarding ZILKER. district8dispatch.substack.c… Attended and spoke at the Austin Parks commission on Monday. Did not think the working group was going to pass. 6 for / 2 Abstained/ one off Dias. Just took a while to get there. This was not difficult.

PLEASE SHARE: KXAN, is it normal journalistic practice for your publication to give DA Jose P. Garza a platform while not giving the other party an opportunity to respond? Also, there are numerous factual errors in your story that must be corrected as soon as possible. For starters, you call Allen Causey “exonerated.” That never occurred. A new trial was ordered. That does not equal exoneration. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals explicitly said it did NOT find evidence that Causey was actually innocent. It set aside his conviction and ordered a new trial—not a judicial declaration of innocence. Strangely, KXAN claims the court deemed his confession “false testimony” because of Sgt. Polanco. That is not what the court’s ruling says. And CAUSEY’S OWN DEFENSE DROPPED THE POLANCO ISSUE before the decision. Any cursory review of the court records would make this clear. So, you FLAT-OUT LIED in this article. You believed DA Garza’s blathering story without bothering to check the facts. Yikes. These errors and omissions fundamentally distort the case and change the meaning of what actually happened. Rather than independently examining the court record and presenting an accurate account, you are repeating DA Garza’s fairy tale version of events as fact. Journalism requires verification, not simply providing a platform for one side to tell its story unchallenged. And I resent that nobody was contacted to speak up for Anita Byington and for justice. I don’t know who is in charge of KXAN’s reporting on this matter, but I expect to hear from someone at your publication very soon. These inaccuracies must be addressed, and your readers, and especially Anita Byington, deserve a correction. @taylorgirtman @HarleyTamplin @chelsea_dear @NeasNews @KXAN_News PS. Is @hollyshansen from @TheTexanNews the only reporter capable of covering this case correctly? 🤔

I welcome President Bell’s response and take him at his word that this job was posted without his approval or authorization. But why does it take someone like me to catch this? UF has administrators, lawyers, and an immigration compliance office. If this posting lacked the president’s authorization, how did it reach publication? Where was the internal oversight? Did they try to sneak it through and hope nobody would notice? I’m glad my reporting prompted a response, but taxpayers deserve accountability even when there isn’t a viral tweet exposing or demanding it.
A message from President Stuart Bell: “This job was posted without my approval or authorization, and it has been removed. The University of Florida will continue to remain in full compliance with Governor DeSantis’ direction on H-1B hires.”
