Taking stock of the Venezuelan economy is a notoriously difficult and painful task. Yet we take a deep dive in this infographic to understand what the indicators show and what future prospects, under US semi-colonial control, may hold. Follow the thread 🧵

The Venezuelan acting president is looking to broaden tax collection amid plans to enact a fiscal reform before the end of 2026.

The Venezuelan government issued a statement following Lula's electoral victory in Brazil. A bit unusual that it did not congratulate Lula himself, instead praising the Brazilian people for "massive and civic participation that led to" Lula's victory. It also reiterated a desire to continue cooperating under principles of sovereignty, self-determination, and solidarity
We're calling it. Leftist incumbent Lula da Silva defied the odds and the polls to win a new term as Brazilian president. He did run laps around far-right Bolsonaro in the campaign. We'll see if the latter, backed by the US, tries a number like his dad 4 years ago. Lula has no shortage of issues, but this stops the surge of far-right US puppets in a big way
Only a little over 10% of voting stations left to tally and Lula has actually expanded his lead to over 3.5M. Polymarket has totally flipped too. Looks like a great comeback from Lula
With three-quarters of voting centers tallied, Lula has the lead (around 2M votes) over far-right Flavio Bolsonaro. However, this time the Bolsonaro-heavy São Paulo State and Bolsonaro-leaning Rio de Janeiro are among the last to report. Not for the faint of heart

BREAKING 🇧🇷 The Supreme Court of Brazil has recognized Bolsonaro’s widespread effort to suppress the popular vote by shutting down public transit – and extended the vote by 2 hours. But scores of stations have already closed – and cannot now reopen to the public.
And here's confirmation from Rubio that far-right Machado's return to Venezuela has Washington's blessing, as well as a subtle warning not to rock the boat on the plundering of spoils
The conditions allowing for the safe return of Ms. Machado to Venezuela is the direct result of the U.S. supported reconciliation talks which has already seen hundreds of political prisoners freed and hundreds of political opposition figures return from exile.
The United States expects the freedoms of all sectors of Venezuelan politics to continue to be respected. Likewise, we expect all political actors to support these talks which represent the best chance Venezuela has had in thirty years to peacefully achieve not just a free and fair election but an enduring democracy.
Warming up for privatizations. Full of business mumbo-jumbo, Adriana Cisneros, heiress to one of Venezuela's largest oligarchic conglomerates, is full of hope that the country will soon be a paradise once more for the bourgeoisie

Guess who's back. Far-right leader María Corina Machado returned to Venezuela after months in a 5-star "exile." We were expecting some big showdown as she forced her way across the border or in an airport, but she just popped up in a church in Barquisimeto, Lara State
ABC's White House correspondent David Alandete claims the Trump administration ultimately acquiesced to Machado's return following pressure from Latin American allies and the Florida caucus

Second round of the Brazilian elections is underway. Can Lula defy the odds to win another term and stop the far-right surge in Latin America?

Where is the law? Apparently, no where to be found in this case of political persecution.

"Criticizing a gov't does not make one equivalent to a particular opposition figure. Asking questions is not counterrevolutionary, but essential. What insights have we gained during this period of U.S. imperialism?"

State Department hacks continue to boast about the US-endorsed dialogue process between the Venezuelan government and a sector of the opposition
The United States welcomes the conclusion of the latest round of Venezuela’s political reconciliation talks, which focused on expanding political freedom and participation. This Venezuelan-led process continues to strengthen democratic institutions, expand political freedoms, and lay the groundwork for free, fair, and credible elections.

Very interesting research here by @brunosgarzini for Diario Red on a corruption network (some call it "lobbying") built around Marco Rubio. This influence trafficking has allowed Mercuria Energy and Heeney Capital to secure prime Venezuelan mining assets

From @TatuyTv: "The Venezuelan bourgeoisie, always parasitic and comprador, aspires to nothing more than to be imperialism's local agent. This is coming directly from Luigi Pisella, appointed by the gov't to head the privatizations commission.
Pisella has become a shameless spokesperson for economic policy. In this interview, he proposes a law that ensures the participation of the national bourgeoisie in privatized state assets while insisting on this mythical 'win-win' that always leaves out the people.
Pisella openly raises the prospect of returning or privatizing assets nationalized during the Chávez governments, in the name of 'efficiency.' He also rules out 'strategic alliances,' arguing they don't work and should make way for classic privatizations that are more to capital's liking"

After the Venezuelan government handed over former minister Alex Saab and his business associate Álvaro Pulido to US agencies, there are now rumors that former Oil Minister Tareck El Aissami could be next. El Aissami reportedly said that he opposes any such plan
