I just released my secret project. Public domain video has a big problem. It's either monetized for exorbitant prices on stock footage websites, or completely buried on slow archive sites. I made a solution and released it for free -- 1/2
let me vaguepost like sam altman. im releasing something big soon. something so big... i haven't been able to stop thinking about it... no really. i am.

Themes in film are shockingly simple. Synecdoche, New York, one of the most complex films ever made, boils down to “if you only analyze your life, you never live it.” Chinatown is “justice only exists within fragile norms.” Any more and you’re bloated. Any less and you’re dead.

The images your phone takes are not photos. They’re algorithmic interpretations of light data, and we need to either stop calling them photographs or update the definition
Would have been two wonderful photos of us if the iOS27 camera didn’t morph the background people into creatures of the damned

If you export frames as a sheet it makes a pretty cool video

Jung was the first true Hegelian, and made a hint towards a more detailed history of conciousness that goes beyond Hegel's history of Spirit, and the most important thing that's articulated in Jung is how the movement of the world spirit is not necessarily in a perpetual upwards spiral. We must build on top of Jung's preliminary work to account for the flows of world history and raising *and falling* of conciousness, and for this we must first have a rigid accounting of conciousness itself, a new understanding of man-life, of what it means to Be - this is perpetually under assault now, in the era of supposed "artificial intelligence", and our virtual reality media environment, which perpetually confuses our experience. But we must see clearly and reject notions that Existance, man-life, can be replicated by technology, neither the experience (virtual reality, media) nor the thing-that-experiences (the self, ego, conciousness - "ai"). These technologies are exactly an example of a lowering of conciousness, as the masses fall into a lower, slumbering state of being, and are an expressing of the downwards turn of the world-spirit. And just like with Hegel's work itself in phenomenology of spirit, where he believes he articulates the world spirit itself, we too must now articulate this, to make the world spirit concious of it. This is the key to the future
Be honest, what’s your very first thought when you see this lunch?

I think that's a lot more comforting for you to believe than the opposite, actually
The hardest pill that humanity will have to swallow is that we, and everything around us are just products of computation We’re not as special as we’d like to believe

Posts like this demonstrate the art of YouTube is the package, the title/thumbnail combination. The video is entirely subordinate

Doing legal stuff for Destockd. Liability protection and compliance is an ongoing ~330% increase in cost of running the site. This appears to be the low end fee to be a productive member of society

If AI companies want to pass their liability to us they need to let us do illegal things with AI
A lot of people are clearly missing my point here. An iPhone, Excel, a hammer: none of these can refuse to complete a task. The AIs are explicitly programmed to refuse. Every lab draws a line far short of illegality (while they themselves operate lawlessly). This is wrong.

Yarvins right on blame, but by saying the “tool” has a goal you lose the anthromorphizing game, unless you want to say a hammer has a goal (which maybe?)
Every AI is a tool that has an owner. Every tool has one goal: to do what the owner wants. This is basic user interaction. It is not a weird game of Simon Says, like, when you say to make a delicious dinner for two, you don’t tell the robot not to roast the baby

I think anyone can have an interesting perspective if they can identify when they’re lying and then stop it

Was reading "If Materialism Is True, the United States Is Probably Conscious" last night and realized I already got most of the way there in this essay
