Open weight models are a genius GTM strategy.
If you're the third, fourth, or fifth lab chasing OpenAI and Anthropic, giving away the weights builds trust.
Open weight models are cheaper, transparent, and easy to run on your own systems. You don't have to trust the lab at all.
Commercialization comes from the services that sit on top: consulting, training, and customizing the models. After all, who understands DeepSeek better than the DeepSeek team?

Sustainable inference businesses are the future. Many early movers may be becoming vessels just for servicing debt now.

tl;dr Investors now demand about 15% a year to lend CoreWeave money without collateral, up from about 9.5% in June.
That jump means the market thinks CoreWeave's odds of failing to repay have gone up massively.
Key insight: CoreWeave owns mostly older H100 GPUs, and those GPUs are the backstop for its debt.
