When my clients are arrested by the police I always tell them to demand an attorney, because otherwise they might try to give you a lawyer instead.

I am a fan of anyone who looks for solutions other than using people as partisan talking points.
BREAKING: Utah Senator John Curtis introduces bill to create new state-sponsored migrant worker program. The bill would establish a 3-year, renewable visa for individuals coming to work or invest — as well as their spouses & minor children. A quota of 5,000 visas would be increased or decreased depending on whether states enforce compliance. deseret.com/politics/2026/08…

The Supreme Court just ruled that your phone's location history is protected by the Fourth Amendment. Police need constitutional justification before accessing it, even from a third-party tech company like Google. A big privacy win. 🔗 libertas.institute/privacy/t… #utpol

Utahns did have a choice. That's why Prop 4 passed.

A thread with more than you want to know about the Utah Legislature's 7-week General Session that just wrapped. First: There were an absurd number of bill introductions (1,016), but only 540 bills passed--which would have been absurd 15 years ago but is now average. (1/11)

NEW: Senate Bill 301 will protect Utahns from unnecessary arrests, raising the bar for a "good faith effort" to serve a summons and prioritizing less coercive options first. We support! ✅ Here's why: libertas.institute/bill/sb-3… #utleg #utpol @steph_pitcher

If you’re a Utah taxpayer, here are some numbers that should bother you: It costs over $150 per day to keep someone in prison. Meanwhile, 60–65% of people released from prison are back within three years, often for technical violations. That’s an expensive way to pretend we’re fixing problems we’re actually recycling. Before spending taxpayer money to reopen prisons or pass more bills increasing criminal penalties, we need honest data and transparent answers. Details: libertas.institute/justice-a…

Yesterday I took my oldest to drop off clothes and other items from a hapless ex boyfriend from the past. Middle child comes with us to actually take the items to the porch. Oldest directs this endeavor. I’m supposed to turn my headlights off... 1/4

We drive away and then realize the items were actually left at the family guest house, not the actual house. No one cares; in fact the mishap creates an additional challenge the girls are not mad about. We listen to breakup rage music all the way home. 3/4

This feels like when Pluto got demoted as a planet.
The U.S. Mint on Wednesday ended production of the penny, a change made to save money - it cost nearly 4 cents to make one penny - and because the 1-cent coin that could once buy a snack or a piece of candy had become increasingly irrelevant.
