ALT An introduction to video in email, using Gifs and WebP. This is part two covering video. I’ll be going over file-size, placement, accessibility, making videos for email and trends (mainly around tooling). There’s some extra footage in the video, that I couldn’t show in the slides. ALT I’ll sometimes create these reduced frame rate animations. This was originally 104 frames out of After Effects, whereas this version is just 12 frames after I rebuilt it in Photoshop. Though typically we want something that’s runs more smoothly, like this Han Kjøbenhavn video. Its 25 frames long, and 4.1 MB.

ALT So to see what’s typical, I saved 100 animations from my inbox and sorted them into 3 groups. 54 out of 100 were cuts, 26 were video, and 20 were keyframe animations. So video and cuts made up the majority at 80%. These were some of the videos I received, and by ‘video’ we’re really referring to Gifs and WebP as most weren’t real HTML5 video.

ALT plotter materials issue #1 is a chronologically arranged list of materials—papers, pens, and inks—from artists working with digital computers and pen plotters, 1952–2023. It was designed to be a catalogue for practitioners; and more broadly a research aid into materiality. This issue takes the form of a broadside in a nod to futura 13. A 1966 collaboration between Hansjörg Mayer, a concrete poet and publisher, and one of the earliest computer artists, Frieder Nake.

ALT I’ve become a bit of a paper enthusiast in recent years due to an interest in indie magazines and artist books etc., and I studied computer graphics way back so this strangely-niche-subject ticks many of my boxes. Just pleasing myself making a thing I want, our plotter is a modified 3D printer, and I started to collect this info for my own use a few years back and it snowballed. Just in case; a pen plotter is a computer controlled drawing machine, most often with a pen attachment though you can use brushes etc.; it’s driven by code instructions such as pen up and down.
