He is absolutely right. In Buddhism, the idea of retribution or karma is central. In my view, however, karma is better understood in practical terms. It is the result of planning, strategy, and analytics working together.
Karma is not mystical or religious. It is the consequence of decisions made after careful analysis, thoughtful planning and strategic execution, followed by a conscious choice to act. Outcomes do not arise by fate, they are produced by decision making processes.
A well-designed plan, supported by sound strategy and data driven analysis, reduces uncertainty and narrows poor choices. This increases the probability of achieving the best possible result, what people often label as “good karma.” Conversely, weak planning and poor strategy naturally lead to unfavorable outcomes, commonly described as “bad karma.”
This principle applies universally: to individuals, families, organizations, companies, nations and even the world as a whole.
Karma itself has nothing to do with religion. Religions are human creations, not to define how cause and effect truly operate in reality.

I think most people don’t understand the importance of being present. We always think about an uncertain future. We might die today; we can’t know for sure if tomorrow will come. Yet we stay anxious about days that haven’t arrived. Realizing the present moment is golden could be generational. Fix a goal, stop overthinking the future, stay present, and see how your will changes and the world works for you like a beautiful white horse showing you heaven. Lock in the present and ignore the outcomes.

Other than Consciousness nothing exists. Whatever you see is your own reflection. It is only through ignorance of your true nature, that the universe appears to exist. One who understands with conviction, that the universe is nothing but an illusion, becomes free of it.

Karma works on three things.
Motivation, Intention and Effect.
If all three are good then it's Nishkama Karma leasing to Moksha.
If Motivation is wrong but effect and intentions are good then it's Punya Karma.
If Intention is good but effect is bad , then it's mixed Karma.
If all three are wrong then it's Pāpa Karma.
Motivation is of two types (Vidya and Avidya) any action done through Avidya can be Punya or Pāpa depending on intention.
All actions through Vidya are neither Punya not Pāpa.
