People keep telling renters to move when they can no longer afford another rent increase.
So I tried doing exactly that.
Then I added up what it would actually take to leave: first month’s rent, security deposit, application fees, credit checks, a moving truck, utility deposits, and time away from work to get everything done.
The total? At least $4,000 before I can even settle into the new place.
My rent went up $300 a month, and somehow the advice for dealing with that is to come up with thousands of dollars I don’t have.
Think about how backwards that is.
You can’t afford to stay, but you need money you don’t have to leave.
People call it a simple solution because they ignore the cost of accessing it.
Sometimes being broke doesn’t just make life expensive. It makes escaping expensive too.

i’d say it mainly demonstrates that most americans are broadly fine with trans people existing and generally pro-equality, but don’t actually think it’s possible to change one’s sеx. the general public thinks medical transition is cosmetic. they hear “trans” and think “pronouns.”
