Once every ten days, a bright canary-yellow bullet train glides into Tokyo Station at full speed, yet not a single passenger is allowed to step on board. Its windows are mostly covered from the inside, its timetable is never published for the public, and there are no ticketed seats in any of its seven cars. In Japan, every child and every commuter knows this train by two English words: Doctor Yellow. Since the Tokaido Shinkansen began running between Tokyo and Osaka in October 1964, Japanese bullet trains have carried more than seven billion passengers at speeds up to one hundred and eighty-five miles per hour with zero passenger fatalities from derailments or collisions. Critics sometimes assume that kind of sixty-year safety record is a miracle of luck. It is not luck; it is what happens when a nation builds a high-speed hospital train whose only patient is the steel track itself. Why does Japan run a seven-car bullet train painted bright yellow with zero paying customers on board? In the early days of high-speed rail, engineers realized that checking hundreds of miles of track on foot at night with hand gauges was too slow, and that tracks behave differently when a three-hundred-ton train slams over them at one hundred and sixty-eight miles per hour. So Japanese railway engineers took a seven-car Class 923 Shinkansen trainset and packed every car from nose to tail with laser-optical sensors, gyroscopes, accelerometers, and high-speed cameras. Running in the middle of the regular passenger schedule at a full one hundred and sixty-eight miles per hour, Doctor Yellow fires laser beams onto the left and right rails to measure track width, vertical dip, and curvature alignment down to one-tenth of a millimeter, about the thickness of a single human hair. At the same time, two special observation domes built into the roof and laser pantographs check the overhead high-voltage copper wire for microscopic wear before a single spark can cause a power outage. The instant Doctor Yellow detects a rail that has shifted by even a fraction of an inch, it beams the exact GPS coordinates to maintenance crews waiting along the line so they can fix the spot that very night after the last passenger train goes to sleep. Because its schedule is kept secret so crowds do not pack the platforms, Japanese commuters treat spotting Doctor Yellow by chance as a genuine good-luck charm that brings happiness for the rest of the week. Safety is never an accident when engineers check their work down to the width of a hair. (Note: Every photograph-style illustration on my feed is created by AI.)

ROGERS IS ABOUT TO CHARGE 🇨🇦 FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF PAYING THEIR BILL. You can’t make this stuff up. Starting January 17, 2027, Rogers and Fido will introduce a 1.6% processing fee for customers paying their phone & internet bills by credit card. On a $200 monthly bill, that’s another $38.40 a year. Just for paying your bill. And here’s the kicker. Quebec customers are exempt. Why? Because Quebec’s consumer protection laws prohibit these surcharges. Apparently, consumers in the rest of Canada don’t deserve the same protection. Remember, Telus tried this in 2022. Consumer backlash eventually helped push it to reverse course. In 2022, Rogers said it had no plans to introduce a similar fee. Four years later, here we are. This is what happens when competition is weak. Instead of fighting to win customers, companies find new ways to charge the ones they already have.

a critical vulnerability was just discovered in PHP. the language that runs 80% of the internet severity score: 9.2 out of 10. that’s about as bad as it gets what can an attacker do with this? take full admin control of a server. steal entire databases. passwords, credit cards, payment histories. plant malware and use the server to attack other systems but here’s the terrifying part that most people missed the moment the patch drops tonight attackers are expected to use AI to reverse engineer what was fixed within 15 minutes 15 minutes. that’s the window between the fix going live and automated attacks launching worldwide every online store, booking site, and corporate system running PHP that doesn’t update in those 15 minutes becomes a target this isn’t just a developer problem. if you’ve ever signed up to a website, entered your card details, or created an account online your data is sitting on servers that might be vulnerable right now and someone just publicly dropped the working exploit on twitter before the patch was even ready. gave every attacker on earth a head start engineers worldwide are pulling all-nighters tonight to patch their systems before the attacks begin change your passwords on any service that matters to you. enable 2FA everywhere. and watch out for fake “maintenance” or “password reset” emails over the next few days the internet is about to have a very long night

Kamery złapały scenę, w której grupa typów z twarzami zakrytymi, w dresach i kapturach, wyrywa drzwi, wchodzi do sklepu i wynosi torebki, walizki, wszystko co błyszczy. Trafione w punkt. W Lyonie situacja wyglądała jeszcze bardziej kuriozalnie. Magazyny Jules i H&M przy rue de la République zostały dosłownie ogołocone – witryny wybite, półki puste, podłoga zasypana resztkami. To samo spotkało Hugo Boss, Sephora, Darty, The Kooples i dziesiątki innych. A na deser – biuro turystyczne na place Bellecour. Najpierw obrabowane, potem podpalone. Płomienie wychodziły z okien, dokumenty leżały na chodniku, a strażacy mieli utrudniony dostęp, bo grupki zamaskowanych „manifestantów” wolały rzucać petardami i kamieniami w policję niż pozwolić gasić ogień. Restauracja. Miejsce, w którym ktoś pracował, gotował, zarabiał na życie. A nad nim – mieszkania zwykłych ludzi. I to wszystko w imię „kolera przeciw drogiej życiu”. Sprawcy? Politycy i aktywiści, którzy systematycznie relatywizują przemoc, którzy mówią „rozumiemy gniew”, którzy milczą, gdy bandyci niszczą, a krzyczą tylko wtedy, gdy policja używa gazu. Ci, którzy przez lata budowali narrację, że własność prywatna to złodziejstwo, a sklepy to „symbole opresji”. W efekcie dostaliśmy dokładnie to, co zasiali: hordę ludzi, którzy „walczą z kapitalizmem”… kradnąc torebki Louis Vuitton i buty z H&M. ©LV
