We live in an empire that has the luxury to have two political parties pretending to have drastic political economic differences, while in reality, they both support capitalism, imperialism, settler colonialism, war, dispossession, state-sanctioned death, and destruction.

shocked by the discourse about whether it’s rude to ask if you can stay at a friend’s apartment when you’re in their city. someone said “i have a tiny apartment and a stressful job so that wouldn’t work for me” okay then say that to your friend? it’s not rude of them to ask wtf

Actually takes my breath away how cruel some people are. Like genuinely devoid of empathy and will kick kind people when they’re down (with glee) — and some of these people still get paid to voice their brain’s broken, sociopathic thoughts.
Really fucked up, man. Truly.

"A huge number of LGP people (who were only included in this data set if they were already supporters and aligned with our harmful, oppressive, and boring vision), are unhappy (likely because they don't know what joy feels like)." There, fixed it for you!

I took a bit of time to look at the data that they are referencing, what of it I was able to find.
This polling they speak of is a crystal-clear example of why you never accept polling results at face value.
You always need to look further into the data to get a better picture.
The most obvious issue this poll has is a sampling problem.
Their 94% statistic comes from a voluntary form emailed to people who are already signed up to LGB Alliance's newsletter, as well as donors, event attendees, etc.
They had 7,021 invitations and only managed a usable sample of 1,709. That's roughly 24% of those invited.
Not good.
This isn't a representative poll of the general population. It's functionally more affirming LGB Alliance of it's feelings, as it's from their supporters.
By selecting only its supporters, they basically poison the results, as they are in no way representative of the larger public.
The question they were asked is far narrower than the policy claim they are making, too.
They were asked if they personally felt comfortable being categorized under LGBTQ+, not whether they opposed trans organizations or wanted governments to abolish the term somehow. People can personally feel uncomfortable with a label while still supporting an umbrella coalition.
There is also additional suspect qualitative material such as random quotes that are inflammatory without any explanation of the circumstances in which those quotes were derived.
There is a ton of missing info as well.
Where is the full questionnaire, question order, respondent ages and regions, frame composition, duplicate controls, the exact subgroup bases, nonresponse analysis, and weighing?
The 94% statistic solely tells the world how their newsletter subscribers feel.
Not how Britain feels.
This is functionally disinformation at this point.
We surveyed lesbian, gay and bisexual people. 94% felt uncomfortable being categorised under the LGBTQ+ umbrella. 87% felt uncomfortable being categorised as 'queer'. Here's what they said - and what we're doing about it.
"As a lesbian I feel marginalised and like I don't belong in a community that used to be very important to me. I feel ostracised and isolated." "It feels like they jumped on our coattails but somehow managed to grab the steering wheel." These are verbatim responses from LGB people in our survey.
LGB stands for lesbian, gay and bisexual - people who are same-sex attracted. TQ+ covers gender identity, which is a distinct thing. Organisations that attempt to serve both often end up serving neither well - and in practice, tend to prioritise TQ+ constituents at the expense of LGB people.
In 2021, the government abandoned the aggregate term BAME following the Inclusive Britain report, which found it failed to reflect the differing needs of those it covered. LGB Alliance is calling for the same approach to LGBTQ+.
Don't Call Me Queer is LGB Alliance's campaign for same-sex attracted people to have specific representation that actually serves their needs. Read our report and take action: lgballiance.org.uk/dont-call…

Hey can we remember that queer and trans people deserve more from their Prime Minister than a pride appearance and symbolic gestures.
Just because Poilievre is a mess on queer issues doesnt mean Carney deserves a pass 😘

Language of perversion and degeneracy has been applied to stigmatize and oppress 2SLGBTQIA+ communities for generations.
Jamil Jivani is well-aware of this, and exactly what he's tapping into & reinforcing with his word choice.

it’s always weird to me when LGBTQ+ people embrace puritanical attitudes…. one of the best parts of being gay is being free to question and reject heteronormative expectations instead of recreating them.
Your whole argument is that you’re trying to defang sexual orientation of its political implications. You’re a loser who likes to benefit from the politics of queer liberationists but wants to stay away from it, lmao

It’s weird how comfortable people have become saying things online they’d never say face to face.
At NSCSW we have been hosting a closed space community of practice for 2SLGBTQIA+ social workers. This pride month I am reflecting on the importance of social workers in addressing the rise of anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate and queering social work practice.

Grocery stores asking struggling customers to “donate to fight hunger” at the checkout while they throw out perfectly good food behind closed doors is one of the biggest hypocrisies in our society.
If food is still safe to eat and within days of expiring, it should be going to food banks, shelters, and people in need, not dumpsters.
We don’t have a food shortage, we have a system that would rather waste food than feed people.
