In the last 4 weeks:
- Salesforce: launched Agent Context Engine
- Microsoft: relaunched Fabric IQ Ontology
- Neo4j: launched Context Engine
- Nvidia: released Auto-Ontology
- Google: added self-learning to Knowledge Catalog
All of them are building ontologies for agents.
Giving an agent tools without a map is like hiring an employee, handing them a HubSpot login, and expecting them to run the company.
The next wave of enterprise AI isn’t better prompts or more API connections.
It’s making the implicit map of the business explicit.
Bullish on ontologies.
its true, Anthropic really vibecoded their entire backend to Rust and none of you noticed
Anthropic rewrote its Messages API in Rust. Zero Rust devs on the team.
Claude wrote the code. Humans wrote the plan and checked old vs new matched on real traffic. CPU dropped 40-50%.
Pretty sure "never do the big rewrite" is dead advice.

In the last 2 weeks, one man in India quietly did what AI labs spend billions chasing. And nobody noticed.
Jitesh Prasad, a physics grad from the University of North Bengal and MBA from IIM Lucknow, runs a one man lab called Udgam. Between Oct 10 and 23, he shipped 5 open AI models and a public benchmark.
There is Laghu, a chat model trained from scratch for $146. The full cost ledger is public, failures included: 8 rented GPUs, 13.2 hours, all in < $200.
There is Shruti, a Hindi-English-Hinglish speech to text model in a single 29.5 MB file. It runs offline inside a browser tab.
On the same Hindi test clips it makes fewer errors than OpenAI's Whisper large-v3, a file a 100x its size. On English, he tells you plainly, Whisper wins.
There is Gargi, a 384M reasoning model named after the Vedic philosopher Gargi Vachaknavi. Trained on 17B tokens, about a 1,000x less data than Alibaba's Qwen2.5-0.5B, and within 2 points of it on reasoning tests. On knowledge tests, his own model card admits, it loses badly.
Everything is Apache-2.0 on Hugging Face: weights, code, checkpoints, evaluations, even the $0.45 spent discovering a failed run.
No funding round. No press release. Just one man, thirteen days, and the belief that honest numbers matter more than big ones.

Photo 1: Shruti model card WER table - 29.5 MB Shruti beating Whisper large-v3 (3,087 MB) on all three Hindi sets, with Whisper's English wins visible.
Photo 2: Laghu's public cost ledger - $146.26 for the main run, ~$194 all-in, even the $0.03 X search row.
Photo 3: Gargi vs Qwen2.5-0.5B - 384M on ~0.017T tokens vs 494M on ~18T, within 2 points on reasoning, honest MMLU gap in the same rows.

The China state-aligned threat actor Storm-0940 used the agentic AI penetration testing framework ARTEX to automate attacks targeting hundreds of organizations globally across a broad range of industries. Microsoft Threat Intelligence assesses that Storm-0940 was responsible for the recently disclosed ConnectWise supply chain compromise of a multitenant application. msft.it/6018aakEE
Our investigation found that Storm-0940's use of ARTEX accelerated the speed of compromised application abuse to authenticate to target environments through applications that had already been granted access, allowing the threat actor to operate without requiring an interactive user sign-in. AI-accelerated follow-on activity included reconnaissance, application credential changes, and attempts to modify privileges that could enable expanded or persistent access.
Read our blog for a detailed analysis and indicators of compromise (IOCs), along with Microsoft Defender detections, protection recommendations, and guidance on investigating service principal sign-ins and unexpected application credential or privilege changes.

Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

Identifying Critical Technologies for India’s Self-Reliance
In an article in The Economic Times, Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Member (S&T), NITI Aayog, along with Mr. Aditya Sinha, highlights the need for an evidence-based list of critical technologies to guide India’s technology priorities.
The article underscores the importance of identifying strategic dependencies, assessing economic impact and directing public and private investments towards building indigenous capabilities.
A focused, measurable approach can help align research, innovation and industrial policy with India’s long-term strategic priorities and strengthen the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

India's AI compute paradox: GPU providers look abroad as researchers, startups struggle at home
Researchers, startup founders and GPU infrastructure providers told Moneycontrol that fragmented computing capacity, rising rental costs, cumbersome approval processes and divergent commercial requirements are leaving some GPUs underutilised even as researchers struggle to secure the computing resources they need.

Continuous batching in LLMs, explained visually:
(a popular LLM interview question; bookmark this)
In traditional ML inference, a batch is a matrix.
Every input is padded to the same length, one forward pass runs, and every row finishes at the same moment.
LLM decoding does not work that way.
One forward pass produces one token per sequence, so a request needs as many passes as it has output tokens, and nobody knows that count until the model emits a stop token.
Under static batching, membership is fixed when the batch starts.
A request that finishes in 30 tokens holds its slot until the slowest request in the same batch finishes at 400.
The GPU keeps paying the full weight read for a batch that is mostly empty.
Loading model weights out of HBM costs the same whether four slots are producing tokens or one.
Continuous batching moves the decision boundary.
Instead of scheduling once per batch, the scheduler runs a single forward pass, gets control back, and decides again.
A finished request leaves at the next iteration boundary, and a queued request takes its slot right there. No slot stays reserved for work that is already done.
Anyscale benchmarked both OPT-13B on a single A100.
With uniform generation lengths, the two policies came out about level (as expected), and as output length variance rose, static batching fell to around 81 tokens per second while vLLM reached 23x the throughput of naive Hugging Face serving.
Variance drives the entire gap.
Production traffic mixes 30-token replies with 400-token ones, which is exactly the condition static batching handles worst.
None of this alters the model.
vLLM, SGLang, TGI, and TensorRT-LLM all run it by default, and NVIDIA implements the same mechanism under the name in-flight batching.
The animation below depicts the continuous batching process. I took inspiration from Sreedath Panat's post on a recent post to create it.
To dive deeper into continuous batching specifically, I wrote a full breakdown of the scheduler underneath it.
It covers what happens between two forward passes, how tokens get handed out against a fixed budget, why the scheduler needs no separate path for prefill and decode, and what preemption costs you when the KV cache fills up mid-generation.
Read it below.
