Remember when China wanted to erase Genghis Khan from an exhibition on Mogol empire in France? #Mao #Mbappé

China is demolishing monks’ homes and tightening its grip on Tibetan monasteries, yet still claims to respect religious freedom. The US State Department has rightly called on Beijing to stop interfering in Tibetan Buddhism following reports that residential quarters for around 200 monks at Dza Sershul Monastery were demolished. This is not an isolated incident. From Sershul to Larung Gar, the CCP is shrinking monastic communities, restricting religious education and trying to bring every aspect of Tibetan Buddhist life under state control. A government that decides where monks can live, what they can study and who Tibetans can recognise as their spiritual leaders is not protecting religion. It is persecuting it. Tibetan Buddhists must be free to practise their faith, preserve their monasteries and choose their religious leaders without interference from Beijing. #Tibet #FreeTibet #ReligiousFreedom #TibetanBuddhism #DzaSershul #LarungGar #StopReligiousPersecution #CCP #China #DalaiLama #PanchenLama #HumanRights #FreedomOfReligion #StandWithTibet tibetanreview.net/us-asks-ch…

This whole shtick about Mao changing China for the better erases how common Chinese suffered and after the death of Mao never returned to Maoism. It’s not Mao or the communist party but the people who worked hard to uplift themselves. The communist party just moved out of the way

Tibetan scholar, Canadian citizen, and expert eyewitness to China’s residential boarding school policy in Tibet, Dr Gyal Lo, has been served with Chinese legal documents at his Toronto home, in retaliation for his advocacy for Tibetan children. Dr Gyal Lo’s investigation exposing China’s colonial-style boarding schools in Tibet - a system designed to strip young Tibetans of their language and cultural identity through forced enrollment - was published in The New York Times. This legal action marks a significant escalation in Beijing's efforts to silence critics and conduct transnational repression against Tibetans in exile. We spoke with Dr Gyal Lo in 2023 about the colonial boarding schools system. You can listen to that interview at youtube.com/watch?v=kri9Y-NB… #transnationalrepression #justice #protect #supportTibet #tibetanidentity

Oui... Je me demande.

1/8 Beyond the polemic over Mbappé’s meme of Mao - and whether he should have apologized or not - the real question to me is the deafening silence of Europe’s political class. Mbappé was left alone to defend himself. Why?

7/8 A revealing irony here is that a single meme has exposed the fragility of a regime that spends billions on propaganda to control its image. If China’s global narrative can be threatened by one meme, perhaps that narrative is not as strong as Beijing wants us to believe.

8/8 Three apologies in 48 hours: Mbappé, La Liga, Real Madrid. The same formula: “respect for the Chinese people and their history,” “discomfort,” “offense.” Not one names Mao or directly addresses the original point. China may have "won face" But it has certainly lost hearts.
