While I'm not against this suggestion, unemployment rates are too high for us to blame low voter turnout on the retail sector. Even the employed don't vote. They treat this day like a holiday and not a time to perform their civic duty.
EFF’s Treasurer-General, Omphile Maotwe says a total national shutdown will improve voter turnout.

Majority voters in the Cape Town Metro are black. It’s a shame that most of them do not vote. Most of the township are sitting at 40%-45% voter turnout.

He’s on record saying apartheid spatial planning is a myth. A white judge had to scold him in a public meeting about it. The same judge who found his party guilty of perpetuating and failing to address apartheid spatial planning.

staff at retailers and all over had to work, cos its still no work no pay. I hear you, but also understand, that 250 rand for one day's work was more important than voting. It is sad, it is reality and its all round kak en klaar. food and lights over an x on a ballot
The GOOD Party’s Brett Herron says voter turnout in the suburbs was higher than in the Cape Flats and townships. He calls this unfortunate, as residents in those areas are the ones who most often complain about poor service delivery, lack of housing, and failing infrastructure. Tune in to #eNCA on #DStv403.

Warrant of Arrest for South African refugee, Glen Venter: Possession of CSAM
A warrant of arrest was issued on 27 October 2026 for Glen Venter (31), a South African refugee living in Rochester, Minnesota 🇺🇸 since September 2025.
Venter, a father of two, was arrested in April 2026, for possession of child sexual abuse material. Rochester police received a referral after cryptocurrency transactions linked to Glen Venter flagged payments for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) allegedly purchased from darknet sites.
His account showed four successful and three blocked payments in February 2026. Earlier cyber tips dated back to 2022–2024, with activity geolocated to South Africa.
Following a search warrant on 28 April 2026, devices were seized. Venter admitted to viewing CSAM since 2015, purchasing it through Coinbase, and being sexually attracted to children aged five and six. He confirmed using darknet sites and said he had moved from South Africa to the US with his family in September 2025.
On 27 October 2026, Venter failed to show up for his scheduled Settlement Conference. Judge Christa Daily issued a warrant for his arrest, with no bail. The warrant requires him to be brought before the court within 36 hours of arrest.
The case remains pending, and these details are drawn from the publicly filed court documents.

Never in a million years did I ever think a DA/VF+ coalition could come close to governing Gauteng 😭

I seem to recall the EFF fighting against the VAT increase, pushing to end data expiry from telecommunications providers, tabling the Insourcing Bill, and tabling the Student Debt Cancellation Bill—all since the 2024 elections . Yet because they don't sing "abahambe," you claim they aren't prioritizing South Africans? Ehh

BREAKING: Donald Trump and his top White House aides are reportedly preparing to directly blame Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for the Republican midterm defeat, along with military commanders who pushed for war with Iran, per CNN and CBS News.
“Trump, always one to crowdsource an opinion, has asked allies about their thoughts on Hegseth’s performance of late,” sources told CNN.
CBS News also reports that Trump believes the election results would have been entirely different without the Iran war. Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine and CENTCOM commander Gen. Brad Cooper are also reportedly facing scrutiny as Trump looks for someone to blame for the Republican midterm defeat.
