"what do I now have table stakes for?" is the evergreen q in this position
You know that one thing that title card at the end of the film about that one thing that gets revealed halfway through? yeah i bet certain ppl involved w/ that subplot are SMOLDERING rn

I love the idea of the husband and wife business. I want to be in the husband and wife business.
This strategy is contextual. If you're kinda doing your own thing, sure. If you're trying to arrange things at scale, I struggle to see how you could have your cake and eat it too.
The bigger ongoing question to myself in this regard, is how much should a desire to be understood change how I am in the world, and to what degree is authenticity "real". I generally fall in the camp of "social skills are a weak authenticity claim"

anyway, libraries are awesome and weird and important. taxes can suck but when they go to these institutions, it’s genuinely money well-spent
no one’s getting rich in these jobs, but they’re critical for community cohesion. they’ve also been catastrophically over-burdened by the failures of other civil systems, which means they’ve become hubs for social services and welfare.
that’s a reflection of the engineered incompetence of our government at every level. it alienates the standard-issue patron who wants to learn or participate, not be stressed or accosted by someone unstable or disruptive. this pressure on library systems is destructive (also IMO by design), because a literate, cohesive, participatory community is a Very Dangerous Thing to political machinations that rely on atomization, alienation, and derision between the public
