So his comparison does work. You are saying it was “objectively” not a swing by applying a rule from the wrong league, just like his comparison. In MLB, it “objectively” was a swing bc the ump said so
“OTHER THAN “if the umpire says so”” why are you excluding “if the umpire says so” from the definition of a swing when in MLB, that IS the rule for definition of a swing? So it IS 2 different rulebook definitions that vary, just like NFL/NCAA FB
If, in the ump’s opinion, the batter makes an attempt to strike at the ball, it’s a swing. That’s the current rule. So, as it currently sits, there’s no way for you to argue it wasn’t a swing. By definition, the current rule allows the umpire that day to use their own discretion
