Absolutely nobody asked for this, but this is a fun little breakdown of what went through my head as I faced Shohei Ohtani in the WBC My main thought was ā€œIf he hits a home run, he’s supposed to. He’s the best… but if you get him out, that’s a fun memory to have foreverā€ 😊

Let’s compare one of the hardest things to do in cricket against what happens on a regular basis in a baseball game Change the baseball equivalent to an outfield assist at home plate and you might have a better argument
What is harder Baseball or Cricket?

These are my credentials as an ā€œexpertā€ on the baseball vs cricket debate - Australian - Baseball player - This was my backyard growing up in the summer

We even had our own rules - hit the birdcage on the full. Out - leg trapped in between the marked lines at the crease. LBW. Out - had a basketball backboard in the backyard. If you hit the backboard, it was ten runs. - and obviously, ball hit over the fence… six and out

I love Sachin, the little master was one of the best But you can get away with not playing full shots/swings in cricket because you can just deflect the ball to the open field You don’t have that luxury in baseball
This is how god of cricket used to hit 100 MPH bowler… baseball equivalent bowling is called ā€œfull tossā€ in cricket and they are considered free gifts… Cricket is far more complex and sophisticated. Ball pitches and changes angle, it swings, it bounces!!! Remember his name- Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar!!! šŸ™ŒšŸ½šŸ™ŒšŸ½šŸ™ŒšŸ½

Two completely different sports that have some similarities! They’re both hard. And just because YOU think one is harder than the other, doesn’t mean the other one is easy. Grow up

Marathon is 42km 100m sprint is 100m That pretty much sorts out which sport is real, and which one is 9 year old kid version of it

What position would he play with his overpowering 1.75m, 75kg frame? What gives you this blind confidence his skills would translate?
Replying to @toddvs35
Virat can become the best Baseball player in the world if he play baseball for some years but the best Baseball player cannot become the best cricketer In the world.

This guy acting like the only pitch in baseball is a fastball down the middle šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø
Whenever cricket and baseball fans argue it annoys me so much. Baseball players can't simply switch to cricket, but cricketers can adapt to baseball. Cricket has 15–17 delivery variations unpredictable movement and barehanded catches. That makes cricket infinitely harder.

Stop it. This is batting practise šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø
Baseball fans: ā€œCricketers can only dream of playing our deliveries.ā€ Meanwhile Buttler and Hales:

I know the cricket lovers aren’t prepared for a genuine conversation about this when they blurt out absurdities like this. Virat Kohli would be lucky to get a hit in rookie ball let alone be a MLB player
a professional cricket player with training would be ready to play Major League Baseball in a month but a professional baseballer would take atleast a decade to score a fifty or pick two wickets in international cricket against top teams

He needs the exact opposite of version of this? The exact opposition version of this would be an MLB player stepping into the nets against someone bouncing balls to him at 70kmh. Not one of the best fast bowlers of the modern day facing someone who has never played the sport
I need the exact opposite version of this. A baseball player batting and Jasprit Bumrah as a bowler. The batter will shit in his pants.

Not so hot take….They’d both suck when trying to convert Yeah they might run into one every once in awhile, but overall, they won’t be good Judge won’t be able to hit a short delivery at 150km, and Steve Smith wouldn’t be able to hit a 100mph fastball, or slider
Americans don't know this, but modern T20 cricket derives it's power hitting mechanics from baseball. Plus the ball being a full toss is considered a freebie in cricket. So yes, a cricketer who plays T20s will adapt and play Baseball better than vice versa.

And the throwing aspect to the crossover of sports. In Australia, baseball players are regularly hired to coach throwing technique to cricket teams.

Yes, I know, some cricket players have great arms and can hit the stumps from 30m away. Thats not the argument. You give me a few chances I bet I could do it. In my opinion, as an Australian who enjoys cricket, and plays baseball… baseball players have better arm strength

But in cricket, you can just be defensive and not have to run. Baseball, a pitcher will have 3-4 pitches. So… the batter has to see the ball in flight, read the spin of the ball, recognise if it’s a ball or strike, and then they have to .17sec to decide to swing
Now imagine bowling at the same speed but making the ball bounce anywhere on the pitch. The batter has to read the bounce and predict where it’ll reach them. Is it a bouncer, a full ball, l? And after all that, you still have to smash it out of the ground. in same time.

When we played against him in the minor leagues we had a nickname for him and I said it out loud to myself yesterday and I laughed because it just sounds funny to say. It’s not mean. Well I don’t think it’s mean. It’s just a rhyming nickname.
I knew a hitting coach who worked with a few big league teams and he always said he spent more time building confidence than he did talk about approach or mechanics

I’m very pro-technology to get calls right, but there is no way that is the threshold for what is a swing or not. Front of the plate. Barrel passes the front of the plate and it’s a check swing. Not that weird 45° line
The Yandy Diaz strikeout to end Game 2 would not have been close to a swing under the review system they've been testing in the minor leagues (via @tangotiger)
