When looking for new math curriculum, to teach kids … MATH… this is always one of my first questions. 🤦♀️👇

Easier access IS a benefit…funded by public dollars. But a tradeoff is mission creep/diverted resources for institutions already failing their core mission: academic instruction. Private clinics can be open weekends, without public funds and free sales support staff.
I wish people understood that mental health on-site in schools is not the answer. But it’s ‘free’ to schools because they will charge your insurance directly. 🤦♀️ This is for elementary school children at the moment.

We need to start having a serious conversation about on-site mental health services in our schools.
Schools are supposed to educate children, not serve as a steady pipeline of clients for private mental health providers.
Mental health screenings, potential overidentification, sensitive student data collection, privacy risks, and financial incentives for providers.

Especially for elementary age kids, the last thing we should be doing is adding space between necessary parental involvement and kids’ healthcare decisions. When schools offer these services, it makes it easy for parents to take themselves (or be inadvertently taken) out of the process.

The more I see what’s happening in schools, the more I think HOMESCHOOLING is the future.
Kids don’t need 7 hours at a desk, endless homework, and permission to use the bathroom.
They need curiosity, movement, real-world skills, and time with family.
Homeschooling is starting to look less “alternative” and more like the obvious choice.
