Showcasing Dr Alice Yu’s amazing work on her quest to reduce waste associated with paracenteses & thoracenteses on our CTUs - where, on average, 50% of the supplies brought to bedside are completely untouched!

"Ultimately, there are no indispensable qualities of Desflurane (sympathetic tone stimulation, rapid emergence) that cannot be achieved using other means, and with less environmental impact"
Do you dislike seeing waste created after a procedure? Dr. Yu and @MathildeGSimard are looking into reducing waste from thoracentesis. If there’s a procedure or intervention you want to help reduce the environmental impact of, our mentors can help!
The @phreportcard are in and it looks like Canadian medical schools have room for improvement! Research is one of the graded categories. Your research can help your school improve in the future!
Did you know that healthcare is responsible for 4.6% of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions worldwide? If you're a trainee with an idea on how to reduce the carbon footprint of your healthcare institution, our faculty mentors can help!
Current projects: Our very own @GordieBest is working with Dr. Smith and @maryhanna613 on a project to encourage patients to bring their own reusable bags and water bottles to their day surgery to reduce waste!
Do you have an idea for how to reduce the environmental impact and carbon footprint of healthcare at your institution? We know how challenging it can be to implement change within our communities. We want to help! 1/2
Learning how to tackle the current greatest threat to health should be part of everyone's training. Unfortunately, #PlanetaryHealth is a gap in most curriculums.
We aim to give trainees the tools to design, implement and measure the impact of their planetary health projects!
We already have a growing list of faculty mentors from across the country including @Melissa_Lem @courtghoward @SamanthaGreenTO @KateHanneman @HumbertoVigil @maryhanna613 @HMoloo

The @WHO declared #ClimateChange this century’s biggest threat to health. We're seeing sicker patients, reduced #AccessToCare, and to add insult to injury – 🇨🇦's health system makes up 4.6% of #GHG emissions.
That's why CMA is advocating for a net-zero #CDNhealth system.
