Since I saw this scene, it has been stuck in my memory. I haven't been able to get it out of my mind, because I witness it every single day in our camp. This blood-soaked man is fighting a battle that nobody knows about, just to get some food from one of the community kitchens. He didn't even notice his blood or feel the pain. There is no time for any of that. All he wants right now is to make it out of this chaos with a bowl full of something he can feed his children. Even his own life isn't too precious to risk for that. Nobody knows what it means to hear your child say, "I'm hungry." This is every father's nightmare here. You stand helpless, unable to provide the simplest thing that should be a basic right for every child on this planet: food. Every day, fathers go into these battles carrying empty bowls and the names of their children waiting in their tents. They push and shove, sometimes getting injured. Some return with food, while others return covered in blood. One may win the battle once, but he dies a thousand deaths. And the strange, heartbreaking thing is that if you asked this same man whether he would be willing to fight the same battle again tomorrow, he wouldn't hesitate to say yes. Because it is no longer about him. He can put off his own hunger, but you cannot convince a hungry child to wait another minute. All of this is happening in the age of food trends, in a world where cars can fly and humanity has conquered space. My God, what kind of world is this? What a despicable world.
