Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia Episode 18 SB/ED/Action AD/AD - Nakaya Onsen One of the greatest action episodes in the Fate series (excluding Camelot 2). My god, this was an absolute spectacle, on the same level as—or perhaps even rivaling—Hakuyu Go's work. It isn't a stretch to call Nakaya Onsen god-tier when it comes to handling scale. His animation and direction, both in terms of action and drawings, are incredibly distinctive and easily stand out as some of the most recognizable in the industry. His style is also remarkably malleable, particularly in the way he shapes chins and jawlines, alongside the intricate detailing inside the mouth and around the teeth. The staff lineup for this episode is actually nuts: Nakaya Onsen, Itsuki Tsuchigami, Moaang, Naoya Takahashi, Weilin Zhang, Kosuke Kato, Naoki Miyajima, Kazuto Arai, Toshiyuki Sato, Hironori Tanaka, Kerorira, Masami Mori, and Hakuyu Go. Weilin Zhang and Toshiyuki Sato absolutely stand at the top of the food chain when it comes to peak animation quality, especially when paired with Onsen's work. Their contributions make the action an absolute feast to watch, with the sheer quality of the drawings and movement elevating the spectacle even further. Outside of the action, the episode also features some great storyboarding and solid directorial choices that compliment the scenes really well. Mori's two-minute character-acting segment particularly stood out to me, especially because of the way he draws fingers and hands. It's a great reminder that the episode has plenty to offer beyond its bombastic action. This is also Onsen's debut as a storyboard artist and episode director, which makes the overall execution even more impressive. It's easily one of my personal favourite episodes of the season. I highly doubt I'll find something as bombastic as this anytime soon, but I reckon Go's episode will take things even further beyond once I finally get around to watching it (Fate/Apocrypha). #FGO📷📷
