In a period of divided government the only kind of votes it makes sense to have are:
1) Bipartisan deals that the president will actually sign
2) Message bills that unite the Dem caucus and embarrass Republicans
Asking for anything else is pointless wrecking.
Representative-elect Melat Kiros: I want to see Medicare for all voted on. I want to see a data center moratorium voted on. I want to see us ending military sales to Israel, ending the war in Iran. And to be clear, my demand is not that Leader Jeffries specifically supports these things himself. My demand is that he lets us vote on it.
NEW: JB Pritzker tells @BulwarkOnline that Dems should shut down the government when the CR expires in Dec. 11 w/o serious reforms to ICE and interior enforcement.

The real fight in California is usually inside the Democratic caucus, not between parties.
Enviros, various union factions (they donโt all agree), YIMBYs, tenant focused, and business-aligned Democrats often split on housing, energy, and tax policy.

This is absolutely the correct take-away from the results of the election in SF and in the Bay Area. Voters want competent, effective government, not a million veto points and authority diffused over too many people.

Amy Klobuchar pulled off the masterstroke of easily getting elected governor, putting her in a position to pick her own replacement as senator (which given the blueness of the state means she could be picking someone who serves for decades)
Minnesota governor-elect @amyklobuchar (D) on who she will appoint to fill her Senate seat: "I will do right by the state of Minnesota with that person."

SF conservatives, leftists, look at this picture. Stare at it. Learn to live with it.
Against your wishcasting and calling him a pedo on his unrelated posts, Scott Wiener is your Congressman. May you reactionaries all fall in the dustbin of irrelevance

It is amazing how this state will DO ANYTHING but build housing.

Yeah, there will be no pivot to the center. This is what you get when you have an 80-year-old president who doesn't really gaf about the future of the Republican Party.

The November election wasn't an indictment on our progressive values. It was an indictment on bad process.
San Francisco's progressive values were in full effect. We passed Props J and C, taxing hedge funds and financing affordable housing, at over 80%. We passed progressive taxes with Props H and RTM to fund transit.
Even the charter reform measures that got so much heat in San Francisco, were actually also passed by progressive Mayors Lee in Oakland and Mamdani in New York City.
What ultimately differentiated the measures that won this election cycle was whether they were built by consensus and collaboration, or whether they were unilaterally pushed forward. The measures that lost, while well intended, often did not have consensus within the labor movement, or were in fact poison pills against other ballot measures.
San Franciscans are smart. Voters can by and large recognize good policy vs political infighting. And that is what this election was about - achieving progressive results through consensus, and no longer through contention.

This would be a crazy and toxic thing for the GOP to do, and if they did it, it would only radicalize and incentivize cautious centrist Senate Dems to expand the court in 2029 under a Dem president.

It's over, Scott Colom will become the first elected African American - Senator from Mississippi since Hiram Rhodes Revels, who was the first African American to serve in either house of the U.S. Congress.

Looking pretty likely this is going to happen for him unless there's some unknown source of Hyde-Smith votes. Mississippi doesn't have automatic recounts either, although they usually wouldn't flip a 1,138-vote margin anyway.
Per the Mississippi Free Press, Democrat Scott Colom leads incumbent Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith by 1,138 votes, up from 65, with 96% counted. Votes remain in Democratic-leaning Hinds County and thousands of affidavit ballots.
