This is what I have always maintained: the Somali peninsula/Punt land (The land of Gods) is the birthplace of human evolution and early civilization.
No other civilization has honored and produced more fierce, humble, and charismatic female rulers throughout the centuries than the Somali/Punt civilization. Indeed, these ancient societies left a lasting mark on modern Somali tradition and culture.

She is of a Somali pedigree known to bow to none other than to Allah. She withstood racist attacks by the GOP. But she never blinked. She indeed disappointed them; she broke their heart😭
Her people are known to hold up their heads high with pride and keep their self-confidence under duress . She, like her forefathers, is resilient, proud, and true to Gerald Hanley’s description of Somalis in his book: The Warriors: Life and death among Somalis: The Somali feels inferior to none, not even to the White man. And that is how she did carry herself even after the billionaire-turned politician, the GOP, and fake Fox News attacked her from all angles. Let us say she inherited strength from her ancient Somali community but also put her faith in America’s rule of law. For all these reasons, she is our north star. We salute Ilhan and say her victory is our collective gain.

No, I don't. The "Land of God" belongs to ancient Somali civilization, as much as the Mogadishu Ibn Battutah visited in the 14th century no longer belongs to today's demography. The same is true with Zayla. These are collective, ancient markers of civilization that precede our current clan structures. In fact, what you said never crossed my mind. Also, when I gave a lecture last August, I said that this predates clans and doesn't belong to a specific group. I am disappointed that this crossed your mind.

Trump has spent his political career attacking Somali Minnesotans.
In the 2026 elections, Minnesota voters responded by electing four Somali Americans to the state House, a historic first.
Anquam Mahamoud, Mohamud Noor, and Samakab Hussein won reelection, while Abdi Daisane flipped a longtime Republican-held seat in central Minnesota.
Together, they will hold nearly 3% of the Minnesota House's 134 seats, marking a new milestone for Somali American political representation in the state.

In a case brought by former President @HESharifShAhmed, Somalia’s Supreme Court (@Somsupremecourt)
has ruled against President @HassanSMohamud’s term extension, determining that his constitutional mandate ended on 15 May 2026 and Parliament’s on 14 April.
The court did not strike down the constitutional amendments. It ruled that they did not extend the mandates of the current officeholders, declared their post-expiry exercises of constitutional and statutory powers invalid, and limited the cabinet to routine caretaker functions.
It also ordered political stakeholders to agree on an electoral framework within 30 days and hold elections within 90 days.
In a separate statement, the court declared the attempted dismissal of Chief Justice Bashe Yusuf Ahmed (@Bashe_Ahmed) announced on the presidency’s Facebook page, null and void, citing the absence of constitutional authority.
Significantly, all five judges on the panel signed the judgment. This was not a ruling by the chief justice whom the president tried to remove.
For a president already embroiled in disputes with federal member states and much of the political opposition, this is a devastating setback after three years of largely unchecked unilateralism.
The choice now is clear: respect the ruling and negotiate an agreed path to elections, or persist with unilateralism and deepen the crisis.
President Hassan Sheikh now faces a clear choice: respect the judgment of the highest court in the land and help pull Somalia back from the precipice, or defy it and risk pushing the country over.

Trump called Somalis "garbage." His relentless attacks against their communities were the most consistent racist barb in his arsenal this election cycle. He was convinced that throwing hateful red meat to his base would carry the day for MAGA.
“I don’t want them in our country," he said.
“They contribute nothing," he said.
“Ilhan Omar is garbage. She’s garbage. Her friends are garbage," he said.
“Let them go back to where they came from and fix it," he said.
He called Somalia “barely a country” and said Somalis come from “hell.” He said, “Their country stinks”.
But last night, the American people stood up and showed him exactly what they think of Somalis. We support them, value them, and we think they belong in government!

Trump tried to make them a punchline. Instead, they made history. The MAGA era is over. We are sick and tired of letting these demented fascists divide us along racial and religious lines. America is vibrant, multiracial democracy and if Republicans don't like it, they can get out!
