The ferry shambles is economic mismanagement in plain sight, and it comes from the coalition that brands itself good for business and economically literate. The part they don’t grasp: the $1.7bn ceiling was never a real constraint. A government that issues its own currency isn’t short of dollars for infrastructure. It’s limited by real resources, the shipyards, the steel, the crews. Those are the only things that can actually run out. Instead they picked a political number, hacked a strategic national asset to fit it, and shoved the real costs onto the next government and the next generation. Then branded it discipline. That isn’t fiscal responsibility. It’s fiscal illiteracy dressed as common sense. Strip away the myth that the country can’t afford to build, and you see it plainly: an economy being talked into a downward spiral by people who think the government is a household. Three more years of this? The Cheapest Ferry Is the Most Expensive One keenlens.substack.com/p/the-…

PAUL GOLDSMITH CHANGES TO ELECTORAL SYSTEM REMOVE VOTERS RIGHTS Enrolment is 93.6%, against 94.7% in 2023. Law professor Andrew Geddis says there are 40,000 less voters registered because of the changes. People have had their voting rights removed, without good enough justification to do so. If the election is decided by 10,000 or 15,000 votes, he says, the change may well have affected who governs. rnz.co.nz/news/politics_elec…

PM reading from notes tells us everything we need to know. FFS if he was authentic he shouldn’t need notes to give the message! Hope he turns off a whole lot more people. He needs to disappear and hang his head in shame for what he has done to our country.

This from @simonbwilson is so good. Share it far and wide "Here’s an astonishing statistic, revealed last week: 80% of the coalition government’s new spending on health has been channelled directly to the private sector..."

Righteous fire from S. Wilson completely justified: “This isn’t a competent government with a plan to fix the economy. Its record, instead, is of economic mismanagement, privatisation by stealth, crony corruption, climate denialism, expensive populist promises, abject incompetence in health and … a still-rising cost of living!” simonwilsonhopetown.substack…

Farrar thinks we are stupid. Everyone knows National, ACT and NZF get a disproportionate amount of favorable media coverage. Luxon refuses to be interviewed by the state broadcasters, then Farrar complains that other parties get more coverage. Shoes just how dishonest he is
Any assessment of the amount of coverage a party gets misses something big if it doesn't also ask how many offers for comment/interviews are turned down. kiwiblog.co.nz/2026/10/state… Q+A has interviewed Opportunity's leader, but not National's Leader. Why? She said yes. He said no.

Please listen: NZ public health money going to build private hospitals run & owned by profit driven shareholders. Talking about the numbers, & it’s scary. Are you really wanting for privatisation because it is happening #nzpol. #nzpolitics youtube.com/live/lT0OR4DrTHg…

He should have been fired by Luxon long ago - there needs to be a serious review into this, also money funnelled to Telehealth and Lester Levi.

Over 400,000 people have already voted. Over 100,000 more than the 2023 election. Apparently there was a big rush of young people enrolling near cut off date. I think the government shot themselves in the foot trying to influence the vote.

What passes for learned political commentary in this country is woeful. Danyl McLauchlan writing in @nzlistener "The coalition [Luxon led Govt] has been carefully centrist in its economic approach..." What a load of codswallop. It has thrown 1,000s of people out of work

Have you seen National's manifesto? **crickets**
Have you seen Labour’s manifesto? It confirms Chris Hipkins will tax New Zealanders more to pay for his reckless spending. There is only one thing Kiwis can be certain Chris Hipkins will deliver following the release of his manifesto – higher taxes to fund higher spending. After Labour previously backed away from its commitment to lift government spending to 33 per cent of GDP, it has now quietly slipped this multi-billion-dollar promise back into its agenda, hoping nobody will notice. Despite this amounting to thousands of dollars in additional spending per household, Labour’s fiscal plan fails to explain where all the additional revenue needed to fund it will come from. The inconsistencies don’t stop there. Labour also appears to have watered down its debt target in today’s manifesto. In its fiscal plan, Labour committed to reducing net debt ‘below 20 per cent of GDP over time’. Its manifesto now says only that it will reduce net debt ‘towards 20 per cent of GDP’. Which is it? This isn’t Monopoly money. Every extra dollar Labour promises to spend has to come from somewhere, and New Zealanders deserve to know how much more Chris Hipkins plans to take from them to pay for it. Labour alone means billion in additional taxes on Kiwis. A Labour coalition with Chloe Swarbrick as Finance Minister mean economy-crashing levels of taxation and spending. The choice couldn’t be clearer. Stick with National’s plan for a more secure future, or risk it all on a Labour-led four-party coalition with Chloe Swarbrick as Finance Minister.
