Replying to @DawnFantasia_NJ
This is so true. And it’s beyond ridiculous at all levels of government
The first time I testified before Congress about independent-contractor policy, I studied and studied to try and be ready for any question the committee might ask me
It then became apparent in the hearing that the primary sponsor of the freelance-busting bill we were testifying about didn’t even know what was in it. He kept confusing the type of regulatory language (ABC ) with the way it was applied through a law (AB5) in California
It was maddening
Great. More spam (via txt msg) from politicians. This time from @PramilaJayapal 206-929-2731 is the number the spam came from. #spam
Not one of many news organizations I've been monitoring has said the suspect is dead nor did anyone at a news conference say the suspect is dead. @WesternJournalX frequently displays this slogan: "The Western Journal is a news company that drives positive cultural change by equipping readers with truth."
Example of the delcine of quality journalism: WJW TV, aka @fox8news at 5800 Dick Goddard Way (South Marginal Road), Cleveland, OH 4410.
Right at the beginning of the article: "WESTMINSTER, England (WJW) – A suspected drunk driver had a shocking confession for officers who pulled him over."
The people in the video clip don't sound like Brits. No wonder. This actually happened in Westminster, Colorado.
The author's bio on the TV site says: "Talia Naquin.
Talia Naquin is a digital content producer with FOX 8 Cleveland. Her journalism career started more than 20 years ago, when she fell in love with the idea of documenting history as it happened."

They talk about California’s AB5 here, and about how freelancers everywhere are “critical” for media companies to operate hoganlovells.com/en/publicat…

A hearing on this golf-caddie bill is scheduled for Monday in New Jersey.
No bills are scheduled to be heard to protect the independent-contractor status of others in the NJDOL crosshairs: attorneys, translators, nurses, physical therapists…
Just the golf caddies.
New from me:
A hearing is now scheduled in New Jersey for a bill that would protect golf caddies' independent-contractor status.
A public comment filed with the New Jersey Labor Department about its proposed rulemaking specifically cited this bill.

What’s happening right now in New Jersey is a policy battle between entrepreneurism and extremism
99% of about 9,500 written public comments on file at NJDOL oppose the Department’s proposed independent-contractor rule. Many of these comments come from entrepreneurial people who earn some or all of our income as independent contractors
Only 26 written comments, largely from unions and multimillion-dollar think tanks, support the proposed rulemaking. These 26 comments include two that cite this book about alt-labor groups in a footnote, as reference material
So I got the book and read it
Page 44 of this book lists problems that alt-labor groups want to protect society from, by altering employment laws
The list of cited problems includes:
* discrimination
* human trafficking
* child labor
* workplace violence
* independent contractor
This is literally suggesting that a company working with independent contractors, or people choosing to be our own bosses—a freedom we’ve all had since the United States was founded—is on par with child abuse and assault
It’s hard to conceive of more extremist thinking being used to try and restrict everyone’s fundamental freedom to earn a living
I got this big post card from @amazon and @onemedical that says "Stay with the care you trust". Can you trust an organization that provides false and inaccurate information to the public and to the patients -- and continued to ignore the problems for months and months and months after numerous complaints and even after a letter to the Amazon CE0? Accurate information on the website for public and patients IS part of good patient care. Telling a senior patient to take a bus to the clinic that requires a 3.7 mile walk is not good patient care. If the outside public presentation is so flawed, how can you trust the patient care on the inside? customernonservice.com/2025/…

Got to wonder about the quality of mainstream media these days. @kcranews KCRA TV, Sacramento, CA apparently can't figure out who the current president is of the United States of America. Even with high standards of fact checking and human eyes on AI generated content KCRA says that Trump is "former" President. This is in a story about truck driver Harjinder Singh in Florida who did an illegal U-turn resulting in the death of three people.
There is a lot of talk from politicians in and from WA State about environmental care. But, this is a true reflection of just how much they really care.
Nice summary by @thekimkavin about the dangers of the local and national pushes to reclassify independent contractors as employees.
Here's my 10-minute segment from this morning with @KenRosatoTV about New Jersey's proposed independent-contractor rule
I have a hunch, after listening to him at the end, that we can count on his ongoing support in the Fight For Freelancers 😉

The numbers among concerned indepedent contractors is obvious. The loss of brain-power in politicians is also obvious.
Increasingly what I'm seeing is an abundance of autonomous junk. AARP is smart. Writers are warned that if they submit an AI generated article proposal they will be banned.
Publishers brace for a wave of autonomous content
