Mark Carney just spent $1.6 billion of public money on the AI company Cohere, calling it a landmark moment for Canadian AI.
But as Marcus Werner explains, this deal looks less like a bet on Canadian AI and more like taxpayers footing the bill for a private data centre buildout
MORE public money for risky AI?

So clearly everyone can see Hakeem Jeffries' meeting with Kushner was, as reported, about taking it easy on Donald Trump.
The Epstein Empire will never come down with Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer at the helm. xitter.gq/BenjaminPDixon/status/…
I've literally never heard this negro talk like this about Black people in America
Can we NOT get leaders committed to us the way they are to Israel?
Huh, @hakeemjeffries?

If there is one thing we can be certain of--and I say this humorlessly, unironically, scientifically--it's that Americans did not vote for more Jeffries and Schumer.

Senator-elect Peggy Flanagan calling for replacing Chuck Schumer as leader:
“I am tremendously grateful for Chuck Schumer’s leadership … and I think it is time for new leadership,”

ALT Screenshot of text from Minnesota Reformer: "I am tremendously grateful for Chuck Schumer's leadership ... and I think it is time for new leadership," Flanagan said, repeating a campaign promise to support an alternative. She did not say who she thinks should replace Schumer, the soon-to-be 76-year-old senator from New York who has led the Democratic caucus in the upper chamber for the past decade and first arrived in Congress in 1981.

It's obviously not the only reason, but why are the Xhekaj brothers getting into fights in the third period, when the game is out of reach?
Let the Jets go to sleep? Why give any life?
Please explain, the rationale for the fights.

Pasternak travelled 10,000 km on an all expenses paid trip to Israel and now says we should keep issues 10,000 km away from the City of Toronto. Okay James, are you going to stop attending the Walk for Israel then? Or does this only go one way?
I would agree that a robust effort must take place to build bridges and heal wounds between @MayorOliviaChow and the Jewish community combined with a fresh approach to law and by law enforcement. The Middle East conflict is 10,000 km from @cityoftoronto. It should be kept off our streets and out of the classrooms of Toronto.

[trying to hide $5000 in gambling debt from my spouse] yeah honey the socialist government of Canada says I have to spend $6000 on snow tires
My friend who recently relocated back to Canada told me that his car insurance company forced him to buy snow tires for his car.
Cost him $6000 for the tires, $200 a year storage and $100 per swap, twice a year.
Never heard of this. I used to have all weather tires and I never had a problem
If this some new way to hammer Canadians for more money? Does the government get a kickback?
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Typical sets of four winter tires in Canada cost $300-1200 before taxes/installation per retailer data, not $6000. Insurers do not force purchases; requirements are provincial laws (e.g. Quebec Dec 1-Mar 15) or voluntary incentives.
