Amazing how Zohran’s wholesome brand and good ideas are making conservatives lose their minds. This is such a loser take.
Zohran Mamdani doesn’t have kids, but apparently he’s figured out what parents need: four hours away from theirs. Here’s a radical idea: parents should spend more time with their children, not have politicians market government programs around getting them away from them.

lenin had a word for a privileged layer of workers defending their position against the class: labor aristocracy. a tunnel boring machine runs with 9 workers in madrid and 25 in new york. the extra salaries aren’t solidarity, they’re rent, paid from the transit budget of the poor

Every weekday, twice as many people ride the NYC subway as have ever boarded a plane on a single day.
In the 1800s the locomotive was the fastest way to travel. You could cross the continent in 4-7 days vs. 4-6 months by wagon. But now airplanes can cover that same distsnce in a matter of hours. And as a result ~3 million people choose to travel by air in the US every day.

This thread gets to the heart of something I’ve been struggling to put into words. What a bitter irony that we, as a species, are intelligent enough to have escaped the Malthusian trap but not intelligent enough to fully suppress our old instincts.

Here it is: the final boss of bad faith anti-congestion pricing tweets

The point is to keep all non white people out of midtown. It has nothing to do with raising funds for the mta. It's about keeping the city as white as possible. communism meet white supremacy in the year 2025

Yo @LIRR you must know that you can run trains at up to like 110mph on third rail power. So why are we crawling through Valley Stream at 55mph rn?

It’s almost impossible to believe that this much stupidity—not just a lack of understanding, but an active, aggressive, all-encompassing misunderstanding of every system, policy, idea & person he’s ever encountered—can reside within a single man. Truly a sight to behold.
Trump is now the transit candidate.

Never seen a FIND strip go rogue like this. It’s like a mishmash of every line that it could possibly run on. Any idea what’s going on @NYCTSubway ? Car 9438 on a queens-bound E train.

TFW you tell a person from NJ that you can’t just yell at people to give you money for nothing.

Historical preservation is stupid. If it isn’t Stonewall, a key part of abolition, having to do with the founding of this country, or something like that, Marie Kondo that shit

This is it. Right here. The failure of government by consultant agreement in a nutshell. These people will take govt money, or take money from a foundation that only exists bc a rich dude didn’t want to pay to fund the govt, and will *never* question the absurd status quo.

This first gen Sombrita was designed to get to work fast within the current policy landscape. To avoid permit and multi-agency coordination, it had to meet these City standards: be less than 24ā€ wide, maintain 4ft clearance, be entirely on the pole, be durable, and be removable.

Truly the landscape imagination as it could ever be—a value engineered piece of hostile architecture delivered as charity from a metropolitan growth machine attempting to mask to distract its uneven development patterns.

I can’t stop thinking about this image as a perfect distillation of contemporary landscape and urban design theory—attuned to the ā€œrealpolitikā€ of a city (anti-homeless infra and luxury real estate development), the bastardized phenomenology of a blue pole and metal grate.
It's official! La Sombrita, our shade and lighting pilot for the @LADOTofficial Gender Equity Action Plan, was unveiled this morning

Rush hour-level crowds. 11-12min headways on downtown 1 trains. @NYCTSubway maybe hire one person who cares about your non-9-5-commuter riders.

TFW when you’re an famous investor and you literally don’t understand the first thing about how banks work. Incredible.
The idea that depositors are creditors to a bank is an absurd and outdated notion. Everyone just wants a checking account, not to loan the bank money.

A beautiful reminder of why I sometimes get so frustrated… this city deserves so much better than its incompetent leaders could ever provide.

Greatest city in the world, baby! (No you can’t sit in a chair unless you buy a meal. Otherwise a dirty homeless person might feel welcome in here.)

The train hall is now filling with diesel exhaust as hundreds of people wait for their delayed trains. This place is the jewel in the crown of a failing political system.
