Personal data has become fuel for targeted persuasion at scale, where different audiences see different stories about the same actor, with motives assigned and loyalties implied. The shared middle ground that humanitarian organizations, scientists, and journalists depend on erodes.
The same argument extends to the privacy infrastructure underneath the open internet. Whistleblower systems, anti-censorship tools, secure communications for journalists working sources in dangerous places.
The work is rarely glamorous and almost never fits a commercial funding model.
That's the layer the Internet Freedom Project, our quadratic funding round with @torproject, supports. Ten nonprofits, $115K match pool from @cakewallet, @ZcashCommGrants, @Logos_network, and @OctantApp, through June 19.
