🇮🇹 100 Jewish early childhood educators canceled their trip to a professional conference in Italy after they were told to sign a statement condemning Israel. 🇨🇭 An Israeli film was excluded from a queer film festival in Switzerland after the filmmaker was subject to questioning about his beliefs about Israel. 🇬🇧 A British comedian was kicked out of a writing group after being questioned on his beliefs about Israel. 🇮🇪 An Irish hotel cancelled the reservations of 70 people who were attending a conference on combatting antisemitism. These are just from the past week. Caring about Palestinians is not an excuse to be silent when antisemitism is being normalized across the world.

Three years ago today was the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust. That same hatred has exploded on Canadian streets, synagogues, Jewish schools and businesses. We won't let it become normal. May all of their memories be a blessing.

Nöam, a well-known Montréal kosher restaurant on Décarie Boulevard, was burned to the ground overnight. Nearby surveillance footage shows a man pouring accelerant and deliberately setting the restaurant on fire, according to reports from The Suburban. The owners are Shomer Shabbat and may not even be able to review the footage or fully absorb the destruction of their business until Shabbat ends. The Jewish community of Montréal will stand together, support them and rebuild. In one way or another, Nöam will emerge from this stronger and more glorious than ever. Because this is what we do. As for the motive, we already know the ritual that will follow. We will be instructed to remain calm, suspend judgment and wait patiently before calling a spade a spade. But let us remember the context in which this occurred. For nearly three years, Montréal’s Jewish schools, synagogues, community institutions and businesses have been threatened, vandalized, shot at and set on fire. Because “Free Palestine.” Because “From the river to the sea Palestine will be free.” Because Jew hatred has been excused, normalized and allowed to spread without meaningful consequence. Each incident may require its own investigation. But the broader pattern does not cease to exist merely because every individual perpetrator has not left behind a written manifesto explaining his intentions. There comes a point at which the demand for infinite proof stops functioning as legitimate caution and starts functioning as social permission to remain blind. Whatever this investigation ultimately establishes, the owners of Nöam will not face this alone. The Jewish community of Montréal will rebuild, as we always do. But our resilience should never be mistaken for an obligation to remain silent about the conditions that made an attack like this ultimately foreseeable. We will rebuild. But we will not remain silent.

NEW @thevosf ⁦👇🏼 The social media broadcast of the hunting of Scott Wiener at Trans Shabbat wasn’t a protest. It was an instructional video — and the audience wasn’t Wiener. Teaching exemplary intimidation means you don’t need to threaten every Jew in San Francisco—just the most visible gay Jewish elected official in the city: you surround him, you mob him, you film the humiliation and the bystander effect, and then you broadcast it on social media as a trophy. thevoicesf.org/friday-nights…

Joint Statement by CIJA, @UJAFederation, and @FederationCJA:  There is a coordinated campaign to erase Jewish life in Canada. And it is not only being waged through violence and intimidation. For months, a veritable witch hunt across various channels has targeted all Jewish community institutions with the goal of erasing Jewish life in this country. Today, this campaign, orchestrated by radical anti-Jewish and anti-Israel groups, has crossed a new threshold by attacking our community's schools, with a clear and blatant intent to weaponize the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Fringe activists have filed malicious complaints targeting 11 of our schools across Canada, as well as members of our community. The goal is not transparency, but a blatant desire to paralyze and destroy Jewish community life in Canada. Targeting our schools means targeting our children, and that is unacceptable. Let’s recall the facts: since October 7, Jewish schools have faced real threats—gunshots, incendiary devices, antisemitic graffiti, and harassment. Instead of protecting children, these malicious actors prefer to put a target on their backs, using them as pawns for their vile antisemitic propaganda, which ultimately attacks the very values of our country. CIJA, supported by leading legal experts, is actively engaged with the government to counter this offensive. While there is no indication of elevated security threat, we will continue to work with Security Networks all across the country and authorities on security and safety. Targeting Jewish schools means targeting Canadian children, which is sickening and unacceptable. We trust that Canada Revenue Agency will reject this cynical attack on the integrity of schools that, every day, proudly teach Canadian values.

Tragic. Avoidable. And a devastating path that McGill seems either unable or uninterested in righting. Jewish Canadians, all Canadians, deserve better from this leading institution of higher learning.
"An institution that cannot ensure the safety, inclusion, and dignity of its own community cannot credibly sustain its claim to excellence." Read & weep Jonathan Amiel’s lucid letter of resignation to my alma mater @mcgillu, the Faculty of Law that my own father, now threatened by the same pernicious hate in his own beloved city of Montreal, dedicated decades to. More on this long-overdue moment of reckoning for academic institutions: xitter.gq/cotlerwunsh/status/176…

Belgium’s Defence Minister has announced that the military will be deployed to protect the country’s Jewish population. Yes, the army. In Europe. In 2026.
To protect our Jewish community, we are deploying military personnel to support security on our streets. The safety of every citizen must be guaranteed. Antisemitism and hatred against Jews will never be tolerated. We will stand firm against it, always.

Two more synagogues in Toronto have been hit with gunfire. This is the third shooting of a synagogue in about a week, on top of multiple acts of antisemitic vandalism on Jewish-owned businesses. It feels like our own Bondi is right around the corner.

Two more synagogues were shot at overnight in the GTA. Shaarei Shomayim in Toronto. The BAYT in Thornhill. On the Jewish Sabbath. As a Canadian Jew, I feel anger and dread. Antisemitic violence is escalating in real time, and tragically it’s becoming normalized. Gunfire at synagogues should shake this country to its core. Instead, it risks becoming just another headline. Canada’s leaders must confront this with urgency. Tragically, we all know where this road leads. Bondi Beach.

For years, it has been clear that Hamas uses hospitals as military bases. @MSF and other NGOs chose to ignore this war crime, and instead lambasted Israel for anti-terror operations targeting Hamas infrastructure. MSF’s admission that Hamas military presence in hospitals threatens their humanitarian work is ironic, and acutely overdue. 🧵>>

I watch this video every Holocaust Remembrance Day. And I cry each time, because it revives my hope in humanity! This is Sir Nicolas Winton, who rescued 669 (mostly Jewish) children from Czechoslovakia during the Holocaust & brought them to Britain in the Kindertransport.
