For more than 70 years, Sioux Center has owned and operated our own electric and natural gas utilities, and for longer than that, our own water, wastewater and streets. That means we have local control, local leadership, and a focus on community strength.
This week we join cities across the nation celebrating Public Power & Natural Gas Week. We are thankful for the visionary leaders who pursued owning our own utilities decades ago, and we are thankful for our local utilities and their reliability, quick response times, local customer service, and community focus.

National Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day started after a natural gas explosion at school in New London, Texas on March 18, 1937. This deadly incident led to the use of mercaptan, which accounts for the "rotten egg" smell that warns you of the presence of natural gas. It was a turning point that shifted the entire industry’s focus toward the rigorous safety protocols we practice today.
At #MLGW we are committed to bringing you safe, reliable natural gas today and every day.
