𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐘 𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇 𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐋 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 On October 30, 2026, a Clay High School Student came to school wearing an outfit that consisted of camouflage and commando-style gear, including a tactical vest with pouches, a ballistic helmet and a radio. A school employee saw the individual, didn't recognize them or know if they were a student at the time and saw them turn and immediately leave school property; this prompted extreme concern about his behavior and disruption to the school environment. The school was placed on a SECURE status as we conducted our investigation. After locating the student off-campus and being interviewed, the student was arrested on a misdemeanor for disrupting a school function. The student is also being disciplined in accordance with the Clay County District Schools Student Code of Conduct. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office takes all threats involving our schools extremely seriously and we appreciate the coordination with Clay County District Schools to ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff. Protecting our students and providing a safe, secure environment for learning will always be our top priority.

Scammers are getting craftier, but our seniors are getting smarter. Our officers have been working hard to educate people on common scams, and this includes visiting our local senior centers to make sure they have the most up-to-date information to protect them from getting ripped off. Here are the most common rackets we see: Jury duty scams: We will never call you demanding payment or personal information because you missed jury duty. If someone threatens you with arrest unless you pay immediately, hang up. AI family voice scams: Scammers can now use artificial intelligence to clone the voices of your friends and family. If someone calls claiming to be a loved one in an emergency and urgently needs money or information, take a moment to verify who you’re really talking to. Unexpected links: Be cautious about clicking links you weren’t expecting, even if the message appears to come from someone you know or a trusted organization. Scammers want you to panic and act quickly without asking questions. Taking a few minutes to slow down and verify the information might just save you from a scam. Share this with a parent, grandparent, or loved one. It might help them from becoming a victim.

🦌 𝗔 𝗕𝗨𝗖𝗞-𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗗 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗘 🦌 On August 23, 2026, SJSO deputies responded to a home and found a large buck in the bathroom... a true deer-in-the-headlights moment. Using only their wits and a pool brush, deputies helped the buck safely escape back into the woods. The buck fled before deputies could issue a warning for trespassing. #teamsjso

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is releasing details and video from an officer-involved-shooting that occurred on Westdale Drive on August 11, 2026. The details below are preliminary. The incident resulted in the death of 22-year-old Asia Bennett. Had she survived her injuries, she would have been arrested for Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Domestic Battery. At 10:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to a home on Westdale Drive after a victim reported Bennett had battered him. The victim was in a domestic relationship with Bennett. Officers arrived on scene three minutes after the emergency call was placed, and the victim met the officers outside. He said Bennett was inside the home armed with a knife. While Officer Gaitten was speaking with the victim, Bennett came out the front door. Officer Gaitten saw Bennett with multiple items in her hands, including a large butcher-style kitchen knife. The officer unholstered her gun and pointed it at Bennett. She yelled at Bennett multiple times to drop all the items in her hands. Instead, Bennett dropped some items while still holding onto the large knife. Bennett then advanced on the officer, yelling at her. When the armed Bennett was within approximately 10 feet of the officer, the officer fired her weapon, striking Bennett. Bennett fell to the ground, but she continued to hold onto the knife. Bennett tried to get up with the knife, and the officer fired a second shot. Bennett then let go of the knife, and officers were able to handcuff her. Paramedics were already on scene, and they provided emergency medical aid before Bennett was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The State Attorney’s Office will independently review the incident to assess the legality of the officer’s actions. JSO will then conduct an internal review to ensure the officer acted within policy. Conclusions remain pending.

111mph in a 45? Yeah, that’s not okay. On July 17th, our Motor Unit clocked this driver traveling at 66mph over the speed limit. He was stopped and arrested under Florida's Super Speeder law. That's not just speeding, it's reckless and puts everyone on the road at risk. A friendly reminder that Florida's Super Speeder law makes it a criminal misdemeanor to drive 50mph or more over the posted speed limit, or to drive 100mph or more in a manner that endangers others or interferes with other traffic. Help keep our roads safe by slowing down and obeying the speed limit. #CCSOFL #ProudlyServing

𝐀𝐃𝐃𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐉𝐔𝐋𝐘 𝟖 𝐅𝐀𝐓𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐇 𝐎𝐍 𝐒𝐑 𝟏𝟔 The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is addressing misinformation circulating our community about the July 8th fatal crash on SR 16 and US-1. To clarify, law enforcement was not in pursuit at any point. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, but since deputies responded, here is a summary of SJSOs involvement. On July 8, 2026, just before 7:30 p.m., an SJSO deputy who stopped at the Circle K gas station on SR 16 and Masters Drive, was notified by a business employee about a suspicious individual in a black Tesla. When the deputy walked up to the vehicle to make contact with the subject, the driver exited the parking lot at a high rate of speed. The deputy reported the reckless driver over the radio to nearby units. As the Tesla traveled eastbound on SR 16, it struck an individual on a motorized scooter. With complete disregard to public safety, the driver continued traveling towards the intersection of SR 16 and US-1, where he passed a second SJSO deputy. Once that deputy had a visual on the Tesla, the deputy activated the emergency lights to safely u-turn at the railroad tracks. Just seconds later, the Tesla struck a pole, traveled across all lanes of US-1 and into the parking lot of the Flagler Inn, where it overturned. The crash occurred before the deputy had time to initiate a traffic stop. Deputies arrived on scene immediately due to the information about a reckless driver in the area. Law enforcement was not in pursuit of the black Tesla and the chain of events was captured on the deputy's dashboard camera. The driver of the motorized scooter was pronounced deceased on scene and the driver of the Tesla was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. A fatal crash is a serious matter and can potentially result in a crime. SJSO does not immediately release pertinent information that could compromise a criminal investigation. We do our best to preserve the integrity of any call for service within our county until it is finalized. As stated above, the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and will release any further information. We appreciate the public's patience and will continue to be as transparent as possible.
