The 2nd part of this podcast has a really great description of our most recent paper! Great job on the podcast and thanks for sharing @profvrr
TWiM describes experiments to explore gut microbiota signatures of vulnerability to food addiction in mice & humans, and how a phage tail-like protein suppresses competitors in populations of bacteria of plants. 📺 bit.ly/3T5RQaF

A beautiful work on one of my favorite biomolecules!! 😍 Phage-tail-like-bacteriocins or Tailocins are enigmatic. So much to discover about how they function, evolve & play a role in ecology.

My inital bacteriophage research ended up taking an exciting turn to researching something I had never heard of before studying them- tailocins :) Check out my PhD work thus far! @hernanaburbano @smlatorreo tkarasovlab.org/home science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…

Check out my latest work we just submitted😊
Our new collaborative work led by @BackmanTalia between my lab @uclbiosciences @CloeFor & the Karasov Lab @UofUBiology (tkarasovlab.org) in which we find that plant bacterial pathogens have repurposed #phages to compete with one another. tinyurl.com/4uwxpn4a

Congratulations! The Karasov lab studies host-microbe evolution & the interplay between host genetic diversity & the evolution & spread of microbes. Focusing primarily on the microbes that colonize plants, they use a variety of tools including genomics & population genetics.

You go to graduate school to LEARN how to do research. Which means you don't already know. It is normal to struggle with this process, and that is what advisors are here for. Don't assume that everyone else already knows how to do it. You are all here because you don't.

Love grad school, it’s just getting good, but when and where do I curb this caffeine addiction bc there’s never a good time :’(
I passed my first year capstone exams and joined my top choice lab! I’m so excited to be in another Talia’s lab😂 tkarasovlab.org/home

In an age where virtual assistant programs have become ubiquitous, you may also wish to have one that helps you find solutions to common ggplot formatting problems. The {gghelp} function {ggx} mimics behavior of such an assistant 📝 rdrr.io/github/brandmaier/gg… #rstats #DataScience
