Look, when I hate on Nate Silver, it’s because he’s expressing his own personal political opinions, which are usually terrible.
In his wheelhouse of “acknowledging obvious conclusions from data two weeks before an election even if it bucks a narrative”, he remains very good.
Listened to Nate Silver on Ezra this morning. One of the least popular things I could do on this website is defend Nate Silver, so challenge accepted.
His "vibes" have been directionally correct in every Election. In 2012, he fought against the polling unskewers making claims that Romney would win based on undersampling of Republicans.
In 2016, his model was famously FAR more bullish on Trump than any others. He was the only modeler who understood the possibility of correlated polling error.
In 2020, he repeatedly emphasized the higher than usual uncertainty due to the pandemic.
In 2022, he fought back against pollsters (NY Times!) basically ignoring their own data to buy into the Red Wave.
In 2024, he said that even though his model was 50/50, his gut said Trump would win.
All in all, a better record than anyone else on Election Twitter.

True. Just like I had never heard Choosin Texas by Ella Langley until it breaking a record became news a month ago. Many people like me don’t listen to radio or current music. We’re familiar with what we know from the past, and current events (in my case, sports and politics) but not music. It happens.

But this isn’t an incumbent in a presidential year.

.@RepSchofield has not faced a serious challenge since he retook the R-60% #HD132 in 2020, but increased Democratic voter turnout in Harris County has bolstered challenger @SaraForTexLege. #txlege thetexan.news/elections/2026…

Why am I, in the last 24 hours, seeing multiple AI images of this clip with various sports and political figures, for this song which I never knew existed before yesterday?

Big Republican endorsement pickup for Talarico. Seliger is the former Texas senate pro Tem who left office in 2023. He represented TX Senate District 31 (large parts of the TX Panhandle/west Texas) and is the former mayor of Amarillo

It was actually our 250th anniversary.
Not that you would know — you spent it with the British.
Paxton: On July 4th, we celebrated the 200th anniversary of our country.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
July 4 2026 marked the 250th anniversary of US independence not the 200th as claimed in the video. Multiple reports placed Paxton in London England that weekend with videos of the trip.

Those two numbers add up to 42.6. What is the other 57.4%? Is it independent/unaffiliated? Or is it ballots that haven’t been counted/tabulated yet?

I understand the goal here, but in practice, how is this the best policy? If a reputable pollster conducts a legitimate poll the week before the election that happens to be right at the polling averages, they should receive a penalty in your model for publishing it?

Where are the Chiefs, and where is this predicting they finish?

The goal should not be “taking less heat”, the goal should be trying to get it right. If you’re worried about taking heat, don’t be in the business.
Are they still letting in just five a year?
Gronk and Peterson
Sherman and Ben deserve it, probably others, but they’re such a backlog, probably no more than two a year first timers.

Define held hostage. What about this issue, if I get my way, holds you hostage. What, specifically, are you giving up for the kids to get what they need?
Replying to @DoughNee
Yes. I pick afternoon instead of morning. Because that doesn’t affect child safety and school functioning.

Explain what for you is being ruined by kids going to school in the daylight, not dark.
Replying to @Roman_Fyseek
You are correct that that solves THIS issue. The problem then would be that sun is up in our faces at 5 AM in June. which is less serious than kids standing in the dark in December, but just biting the bullet and switching time two weekends a year solves both problems. But, if collectively, we decide that it is absolutely important to not switch time at all, then, yes, standard time year-round is less bad than DST year-round.

So… You’re saying that if a team has a coaching vacancy, and is looking to hire someone who has coached elsewhere, they should prioritize someone who hasn’t won a Super Bowl over someone who has won a Super Bowl? That makes no sense.
This is how dark it is as I’m dropping my kids off for high school at 7:05am, school starts at 7:15am. Basically still dark in October. Next week, after daylight savings time switch, it will be light when they start school. Without daylight savings time, darkness would be even worse the next four months. And of course, many kids are standing at bus stops in this. Just something to think about for those of you who think we don’t need to switch time to keep morning daylight at least somewhat stable for work and school traffic schedules.

Mahomes should be row three with Burrow Goff
