🧵 No-Cost EMI: Who should you actually blame for GST on interest ? Let’s go back in time and understand what it used to be, what it is today, and whom you should actually blame, if you really want to. Before 2013: Zero-cost EMI was genuinely offered without an interest component. You bought something worth ₹1.20L on a 12-month 0% EMI: • ₹1.20L credit limit blocked • ₹10000 × 12 months • Some processing fees, but no interest component and hence, no GST on interest. The merchant was absorbing the financing cost. Then came RBI’s intervention in 2013. "RBI considered these schemes deceptive because a loan cannot simply be presented as carrying 0% interest. Banks and platforms were prohibited from disguising interest as processing fees or freebies" The irony ? The merchant was actually absorbing the financing cost. What changed later ? In late 2016, RBI introduced a clearer framework for what we see as No-Cost EMI. The interest component is absorbed by the merchant and passed on to the customer as an upfront discount. Let’s take the same ₹1.20L transaction: • Upfront discount: ₹10000 • Amount financed: ₹1.10L • Credit limit blocked: ₹1.10L • Interest component: ₹10000 • GST at 18% on interest: ₹1800 So, the merchant is still absorbing the financing cost. The difference is that the interest is now accounted for transparently, and GST is payable on the interest component. Earlier, it was presented as 0% interest, so the government wasn’t getting its share. But the new structure also opened up possibilities. People can sometimes cancel the No-Cost EMI and settle the transaction as a one-time payment, effectively getting something worth ₹1.20L for ₹1.10L. That wasn’t possible under the earlier structure. Processing fees are disclosed upfront. GST on the interest component could certainly be displayed more clearly. But calling No-Cost EMI a scam or mis-selling, without understanding how it works, is just ridiculous. The real issue is better transparency & frameworks not the existence of No-Cost EMI. Btw, there are other similar cases too. OnePlus is facing a ₹93 crore GST demand related to its FREE display replacement programme for the green-line issue. You can read about it online. Apparently, the government doesn’t want to miss out on its share, no matter what. 🤷🏻‍♂️

By that logic, even credit cards and loans are SCAM because you lack financial discipline and can’t do the maths. Paying ₹1L over 12 months can be much better than paying ₹98K upfront, provided you know how to make your money work for you. And that’s without even getting into the NCEMI iykyk stuff.
No Cost EMI is one of the biggest scams sold to Indians! First of all it is never No cost, you have to pay the GST on the interest part Second, it makes you spend money you haven't even earned yet hence addictive! Third, if you try to pay it upfront, there are costs like pre-closure fees and taxes Fourth, multiple EMIs can start adding up really fast No Cost EMI can make sense in certain conditions, but taking an informed decision is very important. The product is not cheaper just because you are paying it in instalments. Make sure it doesn't make you spend more than required!

🚨 🚨 An accident is traumatic enough. Being left stranded by the police for over TWO HOURS, with a FIVE-YEAR-OLD CHILD and a SENIOR CITIZEN (My Mother), is simply unacceptable.🚨 🚨 1️⃣ On 31 October 2026, at approximately 11:01 PM, our family met with a serious road accident near GAIL Service Station, Bagaluru Road, while travelling from KIAL towards Whitefield. A speeding Mahindra Thar (KA 01 NC 6868) rammed into our Tata Punch (KA 53 MM 7661). The impact deployed the airbags, left our car completely immobilised and caused minor injuries to the occupants - @AditiDoon @myr179 2️⃣ The actual accident footage is attached to this post. Senior Karnataka Police officials are requested to watch the video and examine the circumstances and severity of the collision. 3️⃣ Despite repeatedly contacting Chikkajala Traffic Police, our family was left stranded at the accident spot for over TWO HOURS. No assistance vehicle was made available. We eventually had to arrange our own transportation to the police station, leaving our severely damaged and unsecured vehicle abandoned on the roadside. ⁉️ What followed raises even more serious questions.⁉️ 4️⃣ Despite repeated requests, the accident scene was not inspected and documented while our vehicle was still at the location. We were given varying explanations, including staff unavailability, the need to register an FIR first and that a spot inspection could only be conducted during daytime. 5️⃣ This raises serious concerns about compliance with Rule 150A read with Clause 1 of Annexure XIII of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, which prescribe accident investigation procedures, including scene inspection, photography, video recording and preparation of a site plan. 6️⃣ We then had to independently arrange towing, wait for hours and manage the vehicle handover at approximately 4:30 AM. 7️⃣ An FIR (181/2026) has since been registered, naming the Thar driver. Both vehicles are reportedly being retained for RTO inspection. 8️⃣ We demand answers and immediate intervention from senior Karnataka Police officials: 1. Why was a family left stranded for over two hours after a serious road accident? 2. Why was the accident scene not inspected and documented despite repeated requests while the damaged vehicle was still there? 3. Who is accountable for the apparent lapses in the initial police response and investigation? 4. Why should accident victims have to independently arrange transportation, towing and manage basic formalities? 5. When will the RTO inspection be completed and our Tata Punch released? There must be no unnecessary retention of the vehicle. 9️⃣ We have preserved dashcam footage, photographs, videos of the accident scene, recordings of our interactions with police personnel and the video of the vehicle handover. The accident footage is attached to this post for immediate reference. 🔟 We are NOT asking for special treatment. We are asking for the police to follow prescribed procedures, preserve evidence, act responsibly and treat accident victims with basic consideration. AN ACCIDENT VICTIM SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FIGHT THE SYSTEM AFTER SURVIVING A ROAD ACCIDENT. Senior Karnataka Police officials, we seek your immediate intervention, accountability and a time-bound resolution. This matter deserves attention at the highest level. @chikkajalatrfps @acpnortheasttr @DCPTrNorthBCP @DCPNEBCP @Jointcptraffic @blrcitytraffic @BlrCityPolice @CPBlr @DgpKarnataka @bngdistpol #KarnatakaPolice #BengaluruPolice #RoadSafety #PoliceAccountability

📌 The bottom line Supercoins aren't necessarily worth ₹1, their actual value depends on how you earn them and where you redeem them. Preferred options: • Redeem via GoSats for bill payments. • Redeem on Flipkart • Transfer during bonus period only. ❎ Avoid the 10:7 Maximize transfer unless coins are expiring. ⚠️ Supercoins come with a very short validity. Always have a redemption plan before earning or transferring them in large quantities.
