Watching Ed Davey at the PO enquiry and he eloquently explains why he relied on the advice of officials and advisers. I saw the same happen with the Channel Island mail order VAT scandal. So why are these officials and advisers not in front of the enquiry?

The state had huge control over my life under the last Conservative government by slowly but surely depriving me of the essentials in life - clean water, affordable quality food, affordable heating, accessible health care. All taken from me, reducing my ability to control my life

If a politician says HIS mistakes are due to advisers and officials he should name them, state precisely what he was told that was untrue and when he was told this. One day @MelJStride @Jesse_Norman @lucyfrazermp @HuddlestonNigel will be faking amnesia #LoanChargeScandal inquiry

Also on a somewhat different note what people forget is how many self employed/ contractors have a disability, it is roughly estimated out of the 4.5 million self employed 14% have a disability , being self employed can help them manage treatments , appointments

Banning "exploitative" zero-hours contracts. What percentage of people on zero-hours contracts are claiming they are exploitated?
Where is the data? We need to avoid these ideological-based approaches.
What we need to ensure is that when we protect the vulnerable (the ones who have just about managed to get a paid job) we do not remove the rights of happy people to be their own boss, and who do not want rights.
What about those people? How do we protect the rights of self-employed people to be left alone?

This could be very good new for #loancharge victims. In 2021, James called for a new independent review into the #LoanChargeScandal. He's now responsible for tax system. Here's my report for @yorkshirepost. #loanchargesuicides

I am glad that former President Trump survived. However America must confront its gun culture. Despite its international posturing, the biggest danger to Americans is and has been for decades their fellow Americans. The US suffers a Vietnam level gun death toll every two years.

A system that provides taxpayer certainty specifically for freelancers, locums, contractors & small business owners should be prioritised, along with ending the nightmare endured by those impacted by the punitive retrospective #loancharge

It is a huge honour to be appointed as Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury.
We need a fair and modern tax system to support public services and help drive economic growth.
A real privilege to get to work this week on making that change happen.
