Nine clinical directors at Cork University Hospital have taken the extraordinary step of writing directly to Taoiseach Micheál Martin, warning that Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill’s persistent public criticism is severely damaging morale and threatening critical staff retention. Consultants accuse the Minister of using inaccurate staffing figures that ignore nearly 650 approved posts and misrepresent CUH's true employment picture. Unresolved workforce shortages have reduced CT scan capacity by half, delayed procedures, and forced the closure of key facilities like the pulmonary function lab. The senior clinicians are requesting an urgent meeting with the Taoiseach and calling for an independent assessment of the hospital's staffing restrictions. #CUH #StaffMorale #JenniferCarrollMacNeill #HSE echolive.ie/corknews/arid-41…

So we’re acknowledging some things now. Cool. Let’s acknowledge that it’s still here. Let’s acknowledge that we’re doing nothing to stop repeat infections and we’re still burying first-wavers and guaranteeing everyone develops persistent chronic infection, including children.

COVID is impacting everything.
Replying to @missphavin
People will say to you, "You’re just blaming everything on Covid." And they’re not wrong about one thing: Covid is LITERALLY affecting absolutely EVERYTHING around us, including this. Here are the sources, but this is OUTRAGEOUS. neurology.org/doi/10.1212/01…

‘Absolutely insane’ – €1m worth of public e-bikes to be taken off the road just months after launch ✍️Liam Coates The National Transport Authority (#NTA) plans to place 500 new, publicly funded e-bikes into storage under an updated bike share contract, despite the fleet having cost €1m. Tender documents show these e-bikes will be placed in storage for 18 months on the introduction of the updated scheme, currently scheduled for August, 2027. The NTA will also fund the storage costs. This means most of the e-bikes would be on the road for a mere eight months before being warehoused, despite being usable for up to 10 years. #HowIrelandWorks #Wasters #NTA independent.ie/irish-news/ab…

Shocking news out of Cork University Hospital: a brand-new €99m surgical hub was officially opened by Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill and Tánaiste Micheál Martin, only to be closed almost immediately due to failed air contamination tests. The high-profile opening went ahead despite senior doctors having already raised serious patient safety concerns over ventilation issues and unfiltered air ducting. While critics slammed the ribbon-cutting as a political PR stunt, the Minister insisted the event was "already in the diary" and that she was unaware of any air quality issues at the time. The hub was forced to shut its doors for two full weeks while deep cleaning and emergency operational checks were carried out, finally reopening after tests were cleared. While the HSE claims clinical leaders are now satisfied, the facility is still far from running at full capacity—treating ONLY a handful of patients due to severe ongoing staffing shortages. #CUH #PoliticalStunt #RunningAtLowCapacity #Cork google.com/url?sa=t&source=w…

What eejit signed off on the children’s hospital contract?
Simply Simon Fionnán Sheahan: Dear Taoiseach, what eejit signed off on the children’s hospital contract? Oh yeah... - Fionnan Sheehan ▪️none of the 3,000 rooms finished so far by the builder of the new national children’s hospital “were completed to the expected, acceptable standard”. There’s a farcical element here of the Health Minister writing to his predecessor telling him the contract signed on his watch is too weak to make sure the job is done on time and on budget. #HowIrelandWorks #NCH independent.ie/opinion/comme…

DENIALISM COST LIVES. One of the most devastating examples of the human consequences of medical disinformation occurred in South Africa under President Thabo Mbeki. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Mbeki gave legitimacy to AIDS denialists, including molecular biologist Peter Duesberg, who disputed the overwhelming scientific evidence that HIV causes AIDS and argued against antiretroviral treatment. These discredited ideas helped shape government policies that delayed access to lifesaving medications, including interventions that prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission. The human cost was staggering. In 2008, Harvard researchers estimated that between 2000 and 2005: • More than 330,000 lives were lost because effective antiretroviral treatment was not made available on a timely, feasible scale. • Approximately 35,000 infants acquired HIV infections that could have been prevented. These were model-based estimates of preventable harm, not individually verified death counts. Independent South African research produced comparable findings. The tragedy was particularly profound because effective treatments already existed. HIV causes AIDS. Antiretroviral therapy saves lives. Both propositions were supported by substantial scientific evidence at the time. Yet denialism was elevated into political influence, and patients paid the price. This is what happens when misinformation escapes the margins and influences public health policy. Questioning scientific consensus is legitimate. Rejecting overwhelming evidence while people’s lives hang in the balance has consequences. Disinformation harms. Disinformation kills. #BeBetter References: Chigwedere et al. "Sick people are not your sales leads. And everyone watching this happen should be calling it out."
I’m still processing something that happened today, and I am fucking LIVID. People with Long COVID have to be among the most ruthlessly exploited patients on the planet. The grift is absolutely shameless. These predators enter patient communities, listen to people describe their suffering, their cognitive difficulties, their desperation for relief… and see a BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY. They hear “brain fog” and think “easy target.” Let me tell you something: Some of the most intelligent people I’ve ever met have Long COVID. Cognitive impairment is not stupidity. Desperation is not gullibility. And chronic illness is not your fucking business model. We’ve got people discussing serious medical conditions, including chronic kidney failure, and you’re swooping in to sell them $200 “frequency-infused” sugar pills disguised as a detox protocol? Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME? These people need medical care. They need research. They need treatments. They need someone to actually listen. They don’t need another parasite trying to monetize their suffering. If you’re lurking in chronic illness communities looking for vulnerable people to sell your pseudoscientific bullshit to, GET THE FUCK OUT. Go back to whatever cave you crawled out of, you fucking vampires. Sick people are not your sales leads. And everyone watching this happen should be calling it out.

But don’t worry! If you get Covid & it starts to mess up your internal organs or lands you in hosptial as your body can’t cope with it, you’ll also not get any antivirals as the list for those is even worse!
I’m pretty angry at Public Health bodies promoting their “wonderful” Flu & Covid vaccine programme, while they fail to mention you have to be a left handed unicorn over the age of 900 to qualify for a Covid vaccine in the UK now*

“As part of its redevelopment plans, UHG is going to completely demolish the €5.4m parking facility. But the problems won't end there. They have discovered that there is asbestos and unregulated medical waste buried in the foundations of the building.”#HowIrelandWorks
Did you hear the one about the hospital that spent €5.4m on a multi-storey car park that resulted in 80 fewer spaces than the surface car park on which it was built, and then they decided to demolish it to the ground? 🧵
