the ego is so fascinating because it’ll convince you that you’re above needing validation while desperately seeking validation for being above validation

“just feel your feelings fully” is in the same class as “just be confident” to somebody socially anxious or “just do one small thing” to somebody depressed.
it’s a well-intentioned but provides ~no real direction. it’s so hopelessly inadequate it’s almost offensive.

idk how to word this but slowly becoming more neurodivergent has made me a lot more understanding of other nd people. like wow i really get it now

I tend to see a lot of “underconsumption” content which is a good thing, don’t get me wrong, but the things they describe im like… aren’t most of us doing that anyway??? how much money do you people have????

This is a major shift I’m going through right now. Being “right or wrong” in any specific context or conversation doesn’t matter as much as being careful about what types of headspaces you occupy and what you habituate your mind into thinking and feeling.

as someone who sees themselves as an irredeemable mess you really gotta find other people who are messes to make sure you can be there for their redemption so you can discover the possibility of yours, but also never be able to because they're still not you
And it’s kinda terrible that some parents use accusations of ingratitude to avoid accountability. I can appreciate everything someone has done for me and still object to how they've treated me. Being grateful doesn't mean I owe anyone unlimited tolerance for what comes after

One of the failing literacy signs for me is this growing belief that art and media can be deduced and summarized to a single spark notes “correct” interpretation or analysis, when in reality all advanced study of analysis says the opposite.
I hate when ppl say “it's just a preference” bc it moves the discussion from how preferences are socially produced to whether individuals are entitled to have them. Of course they are. That doesn't mean our preferences exist independently of the hierarchies we grow up learning
Also “everyone's entitled to their opinion” sometimes gets used to shut down scrutiny. Like yes, you’re free to believe something, but that doesn't exempt its factual claims from being challenged, especially when those beliefs shape decisions affecting ppl beyond yourself.
Ppl struggle to accept that parents can grieve former lives w/o regretting their children. We expect happiness to justify choices, as though mourning loss means you chose wrong. Grief becomes evidence against the decision rather than proof that worthwhile choices have costs

A lot of these conversations come down to y'all not wanting to be vulnerable with people. I'm sorry but you cannot have grown-up relationships with people if you're not willing to be vulnerable. Yes, you could get hurt but that's the risk you take to have meaningful relationships
I think sometimes “performative” is what ppl call public commitments they don't want to take seriously. Once you reduce someone's principles to status-seeking, you can dismiss their motives w/o engaging w/ what they're saying. Cynicism is a way of avoiding moral scrutiny yourself
I think self-blame can feel strangely empowering bc it preserves the idea that a different version of you could've prevented what happened. Accepting that you made reasonable choices & still got hurt requires confronting how little control you may have had/how helpless you were

Repair is not, contrary to what many think, about the allocation of blame. It is about the capacity for a return to intimacy. When we have hurt someone, we have changed them. To refuse to see the part of them that has been changed by us is to no longer know them.
I hate how “I'm not responsible for your feelings” conflates two claims. You can't control another person's emotional response, but you're still responsible for how you treat them. The limits of your control over someone's feelings aren’t an excuse to ignore your own behavior.

Replacing romantic relationships with platonic ones won’t make up for you being bad at relationships period. Like yall fail across the board not just in dating
Wholeheartedly agree with this. Society just accepts showing up for every whim of married &/or parents but outside of that things are often presented as fanciful or an inconvenience. Its actually unacceptable.
