The basics of basketball are getting lost. Fundamentals are being replaced by highlights.
Too many players would rather take 6 dribbles to create a step-back 3 than use 1–2 dribbles to attack a gap and make the right read.
Everybody wants the highlight. Not enough players want to make the right basketball play.

Players listen to this. Not one mention of a move or getting buckets. Simply understating what it takes to impact winning is what 98% of you should be focusing on.
Chris Finch on how Trey Lyles has been able to consistently carve out a roll every year
“Because he knows how to play basketball, like he just has a high IQ, great feel, a connector in his own way, makes great decisions, he’s always in the right spot. He’s an unbelievable team defender, like some of Joan’s growth is simply because Trey has been out there on the floor with him

“Don’t confuse your role with your value. Championship players don’t count minutes; they make their minutes count. A good teammate will never be defined by their role. A good teammate will be defined by their willingness to excel in that role.”

Looking good in workouts does not mean you’re game-ready.
Can you read defenders?
Make the next pass?
Play without the ball?
Defend?
Adjust under pressure?
Skill work matters.
But if it doesn’t transfer when the game gets messy, what are we really developing?

Kudos to Coach Willard for being transparent. High school players…. You better find your separator. You better be mentally prepared to fight through what is an extremely hard time for high school players to be recruited.
Kevin Willard admits he isn't recruiting any high school players this year 👀
"We're not recruiting a high school kid this year... just because of the fifth-year rule. We have six guys that can come back for a fifth year. So, I'd much rather have one of my players come back, than bring in a high school kid"

ARE YOU COACHABLE?
✅ Do you look coaches in the eye?
✅ Do you absorb the message?
✅ Do you apply the correction?
✅ Do you change the behavior?
✅ Do you improve the next repetition?
✅ Do you respond without resentment?

Then we wondered why children started believing every game was a career decision.
The kids did not commercialize childhood.
The adults living vicariously through them simply sent the invoice.
