Absolutely in love with his conversation w/ @dr_mcgilchrist . Science needs both rigor and imagination. Our methods help us test what we think we know, while curiosity helps us see connections and ask questions that don’t fit so perfectly within one field. We haven’t seen the same kind of major breakthroughs since the 1970s, probably in part because we’ve lost the capacity to follow the intuition and curiosity that help us see how the pieces connect to the whole. Why have we become so focused on the details, and so concerned with maintaining rigor, that we’ve lost sight of the bigger picture? Is it funding? Is it how we train the next gen of scholars? With so much instability in science right now, how do we use this high entropic state to carve a new path toward discoveries that last and actually help our lives, our communities and the world flourish? It's high time we as scientists have an open conversation about this. Tapping a few fellow scientists , love to hear your thoughts/suggestions to embrace @LocasaleLab @JasonSynaptic @slavov_n @itchdoctor @drmichaellevin @skdh @leslievosshall @MitoPsychoBio
Does the scientific method actually hold science back? We’re taught that progress is driven by strict rules, reductive analysis, and cold hard logic. But psychiatrist and philosopher Iain McGilchrist argues the opposite: history’s greatest scientific breakthroughs didn't come from following the rules—they came from breaking them. In this interview with Oliver Adelson, McGilchrist explains why discovering new paradigms requires abandoning rigid reductionism in favour of a holistic, interconnected view of the world. We need more out of the box thinking!
If living systems are too "wet and warm" to be entangled, can we just freeze-dry them and then run the quantum experiments? As it turns out, the answer is *yes*. In 2022, a tardigrade was freeze-dried and integrated on a transmon qubit and then entangled with a second superconducting qubit. In its frozen or "tun" state, the animal's body behaved like a harmonic oscillator or collection of electric dipoles. After 420 hours, the organism was revived. Real question is how much do we lose/gain when we appreciate the aqueous systems that we are. Such an out of the box thinking/study...full read here: iopscience.iop.org/article/1…

Happy One Health Day! Human health, animal health, and the health of our environment are deeply connected. What affects one can have consequences for all. This One Health Day, we are reminded that protecting public health requires a collective approach, one that brings together healthcare professionals, animal health experts, environmental specialists, communities, and policymakers. From preventing the spread of diseases between animals and humans to promoting safe environments and strengthening disease surveillance, every action counts. At Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust, we recognize that building healthier communities requires collaboration across sectors and a shared commitment to prevention and preparedness. Healthy People. Healthy Animals. A Healthier Planet. Together, we can build a healthier, safer, and more resilient world. #onehealthday #onehealth #publichealth #healthsecurity #diseaseprevention #drasa

You cannot fire scientists, halt ongoing research and clinical trials, drive away the next generation and then declare a “golden age” of American science. These cannot fundamentally coexist. As we head into the elections here is a breakdown breakdown of the damage done to the U.S. scientific ecosystem so far: Defense research labs lost roughly 14% of their staff. The Pentagon itself warned of “potentially grave consequences for the future of national defense.” NIH staffing fell by 1/5. More than 2,000 biomedical research grants were delayed or canceled, affecting work on cancer, Alzheimer’s and other major diseases affecting the health of American public. HHS announced a wind-down of mRNA vaccine development at BARDA, affecting 22 projects worth nearly $500 million through cancellations, cuts and restructuring and halting new mRNA projects under the program. The National Science Foundation lost roughly 1/3 of its staff and withheld more than $1 billion in funding. The Energy Department lost more than 1,000 scientists and technical staff. Grant awards from its two major science offices fell by more than $500 million during the administration’s first year. NASA lost 20% of its employees with Ph.Ds. Foreign Ph.D. applications at leading universities fell 21%. Schools reduced admissions as funding uncertainty made it harder to support future scientists and removing a pathway for sustaining scientific excellence globally. Meanwhile, a proposed rule would give political appointees greater control over who receives research funding, screening applications for supposedly “anti-American values.” Thankfully Congress rejected the massive proposed budget cuts and courts forced funding restorations. But neither can replace the time and investment already made. We can’t just simply flip the switch back on. And while the federal government can still spend roughly $200 billion on research - we continue to witness the dismantling of the capacity to turn funding into discovery. And make no mistake - other countries are happy to step in - including China - who are recruiting the talent we are losing. The treatments we will need in 20 years depend on the research we conduct today. So do our security, our prosperity and our ability to maintain our lead globally. Vote tomorrow because science depends on it.

It is time to thank ALL participants, speakers, organisers, and thousands of followers across social media for promoting Phage - the friendly bacteria-destroying virus. Increasing awareness of the vast potential bacteriophage development offers to combat antimicrobial resistance, #AMR, is essential to save lives. PHAGE, the enemy of our enemy, is our Friend!
