AI data centres are set to be obsolete in a few years - what'll happen to the sites?
Planning consents required opencast coal operators to pay into escrow accounts to fund restoration of sites. Should such obligations be placed on data centre consents?

New work @WildlifeTrusts shows England’s nature-friendly farming schemes are chronically underfunded
If doesn't change, food, farm & ecosystem crises accelerate

The government released its Green Belt statistics for the year, which showed an ongoing slight decline...
BUT this is a complete fallacy, as all the so-called 'grey belt' sites (thousands and thousands of acres) are still being counted as Green Belt - even though permissions are being granted!
This is truly misleading @mtpennycook @AngelaRayner @mhclg

🚨 The UK’s spy chiefs have warned that nature loss is a national security threat. Parliament debated it but the Government still hasn’t said how it'll respond.
🌿 We need this assessment turned into an emergency plan for action, now.

Steve Reed’s “Build, baby, build” is replaced with Rayner’s retort; “slim chance.” Labour, like many a seller, has come to the realisation that in today’s market shifting stock is a hard sell unless affordable. Without a decent profit; motivation amongst developers to build is low, unless in Yorkshire and Humber and the West Midlands where registrations rose 27 per cent and 10 per cent respectively.

Another flaw in the system that could be reversed by any government, right now, is that reuse of social housing blocks is subject to 20% VAT. Grant funding for new build and 0% vat is incentivising demolition and rebuild.
Very good point - what a waste

Historic England (government department) published this report in 2025 about how 670,000 homes could be delivered reusing existing buildings. It’s been ignored. historicengland.org.uk/resea… #dontwastebuildings

It wasn't a "stretch target", it was a fantasy imposed on gullible ministers by @hmtreasury.
We need to scrap the national target and have local targets for various tenures.

I understand why we journalists press Labour on their housing target - but IMO questioning why they won’t hit it & what they plan to do is now far more urgent:
- housebuilding in trouble because of rising costs and developers unwilling or unable to adjust their profit expectations…plus
- …younger buyers locked out so can’t buy their homes partly because of…
- fluctuating mortgage rates due to global volatility…
- and the fact nobody in their right mind wants a leasehold flat now (flats key to building at scale)

'Buy your own' patch could be the way forward for residents across Britain to protect land from developers, aided by technology. An innovative model for funding and community participation.

@SophyRidgeSky thank you this is so important. We must also acknowledge the devastating impact solar schemes can have on @tenantfarmers. Solar can bring immediate financial reward for those fortunate to own their farms, for tenant farmers, it can mean financial disaster.
🗣️ Your thoughts on solar panels on farmland have been heard loud and clear!
Following the interview with @VictoriaAtkins about her Private Member's Bill to protect national food security, @SophyRidgeSky asked you for your thoughts...
