I can't believe I'm saying this - I'm officially a published author :D After three years, my first book is out. "AI for the Rest of Us" with @BloomsburyAcad is finally in the world. I wrote it because I watched too many people get left behind in AI conversations. The gap between executives and engineers kept growing. Everyone else just nodded along, trying to translate both languages at once. So I built a bridge.

Writing books brings unanticipated rewards. Writing WHY MACHINES LEARN made possible the most joyful outcome--going back to my alma mater @iitmadras, decades after graduating to teach an Intro to ML/AI course to PhD and Master's students at the @WSAI_IITM (Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI). It was an intense 10 days, where the students and I were together from 10AM to 5PM, everyday except Sun. Besides the history and narratives of machine learning, we got into the basic math of ML algorithms (perceptron convergence proof, LMS, MLE/MAP, SVMs, Kernel Methods, Back-propagation, GANs, VAEs, Diffusion Models, CNNs, Transformers, and, of course, LLMs), and ending with a look ahead at how deep learning has thrown a bit of monkey wrench into the statistical learning theory, double descent, grokking, etc.). Thanks to @DSaience (Sairam Sundaresan), our amazing guest speaker, for giving us invaluable insights into CNNs and Vision Transformers, an outcome of his 2 decades of industry experience building such models. A huge thanks to Prof. Karthik Raman (@karthikraman), Prof. Balaraman Ravindran (@ravi_iitm) and the admin and support staff at WSAI, IIT Madras for helping make this a seamless effort.

At some point, your AI team stops asking "Is the model good?" and starts asking "What moves do we still have?" That's AI debt. More precisely, it's options debt: the slow loss of your ability to respond when something breaks in production. Your evals still pass. Customers still ask for a human. Your team tweaks the prompt and ships another fix. No one knows if it helped. The ability to trace failures, roll back, and test safely. You lose those quietly, until you can't afford to. If you're a PM or a product leader building with AI and you don't have a way to answer those questions yet, this series is for you. Part 1 goes live on @gradi3nt_ascent today. Linked below 👇 P.S: The illustrations aren't AI generated. @Procreate is awesome for this :)

Wow. What an absolutely sad week for AI. Is Fable being made to look better than it is?

AI can feel overwhelming & sometimes impossible to keep up with. AI for the Rest of Us changes that conversation. @DSaience breaks down how AI is already shaping the way we work and live, and why understanding it doesn’t need a technical background. amzn.in/d/00gEVXfj

Spent the day setting up Openclaw and found the process a lot easier thanks to @clairevo 's guide on @lennysan 's newsletter and @every 's guide. That said, anyone have suggestions on how to make claw more proactive with GPT 5.4 ?

AI isn’t just for engineers and mathematicians. Sairam Sundaresan explains why he wrote his book as a "translation layer" between the technical side of AI and the business world. @DSaience #AI #BusinessStrategy #Innovation #Leadership #Edexlive

I’m Ken Ono. After a long stretch in university administration, I made a personal pivot: back to math, back to education, and into the AI moment with a lot of hope (and a lot of care). If AI is going to matter, it should give humans time back for the parts of learning that are deeply human. More in thread 👇

It genuinely feels to me like GPT-5.2 and Opus 4.5 in November represent an inflection point - one of those moments where the models get incrementally better in a way that tips across an invisible capability line where suddenly a whole bunch of much harder coding problems open up

So grateful for this past year. 1. @gradi3nt_ascent tripled in size from 8k to 25k subscribers. 2. I published my first book with @BloomsburyAcad 3. Grew from 2k to a community of 100k followers on LinkedIn. I wrote about the newsletter journey and what's next for Gradient Ascent, writing and education, especially given how AI has commoditized learning. Or has it? Post linked below. Happy New Year!

Amazing to see how universities and professors are adapting to AI assisted answers.
My final exam is today in Berkeley. Pen and paper, in person, all the students try to solve challenging problems. No machines. This ancient method of evaluating students is going to survive in the AI era.

Happy to see my article on the Forbes Technology Council site. In it, I argue why we need to Stop budgeting AI like traditional software and how to convince your CFO to adopt a VC mindset for true innovation.
