About ten years ago, we took in a rain-bedraggled girl who had befriended our daughter and been over to our house a few times. We fed her, warmed her up, and got to work getting to know her. A few months later, after she was pulled from the house she and her drug-addicted mother lived in (with several other addicts), we tracked her down and brought her in as a foster daughter. About a week before Christmas. She was 13. The aim was to help her be safe and healthy and happy while her bio-mom tried to get clean. Again. Her bio-mother died of heart failure several months later. Before long, we were talking about adoption and began the process. We finalized adoption right before she turned 15. The next years were challenging. That's all I'm going to say about that. But two days ago, I officiated her marriage to her good lad. She's come a long way. Proud of our daughter.
