💥 Turkey’s latest play: Defense Minister Yaşar Güler publicly offers Egypt a maritime deal, claiming Cairo would gain ~15,000 km² more sea than under any pact with Greece.
🎇 Turkey is openly trying to “bribe” Egypt with maritime territory that does NOT belong to it.
🔥A modern pirate state showing its mindset in full color.
This is textbook gunboat diplomacy from a state that refuses to sign UNCLOS, denies full maritime rights to Greek islands (Crete, Kastellorizo and others) and the Republic of Cyprus under its Blue Homeland doctrine, and treats the Eastern Mediterranean as its private domain while threatening those who disagree.
The timing is no accident. It comes right after Greece and Egypt agreed to continue consultations on extending their 2020 EEZ agreement — strictly on the basis of international law and UNCLOS — and after eastern Libya’s ratification of the illegal 2019 Turkey-Libya memorandum (which both Cairo and Athens correctly call null and void).
Ankara is trying to buy off Egypt with maps drawn from someone else’s continental shelf in order to isolate Greece and weaken Cyprus’s rights. Egypt has repeatedly shown it knows the difference: it respects its existing agreements, UNCLOS, and the reality that playing Ankara’s games damages its interests with Europe.
International law and island sovereign rights are not optional. Pirate charts are. 🇬🇷🇨🇾

“Sharaa cares about two things: to get rid of his [extremist] past because it's a rope around his neck that the international community can use against him. The other is to rule the country absolutely," Mounir Fakir, the deputy chair of the New Syria Movement and an opposition activist who was jailed and tortured by the Assad regime, told Al-Monitor.

The Jordanians did the right thing here, that’s out of the question; the Jordanians made one big blunder, though:
Unlike Iraq and Lebanon, they had opened their crossings with Syria completely (whether willingly or unwillingly; I dare not say), and they had trusted the regime in Damascus more than their counterparts in the immediate vicinity of Syria. This might seem insignificant, but many of the tribes that live in southern Syria—especially Bedouins—have tight ties to their extended families in Jordan.
I won’t speculate on the physical consequences of having these open borders; the ideological consequences are definitely more catastrophic.
D.C. needs a fu*king wake-up call, that much I can say.
Clearly the Jordanians don't trust Jolani's Syria enough to share CT intelligence or even give a heads up before launching strikes in Syrian territory. And honestly, it's hard to blame the Jordanians here.
But the question is, why does the West trust Jolani's Syria so much when a neighboring Muslim state isn't willing to?

HISTORIC TURNOUT IN ISRAEL’S ELECTIONS
Voter turnout hits its highest level since 1977, with 31.5% of eligible voters casting their ballots by noon.
The high turnout could spell trouble for Netanyahu’s bloc, which relies on smaller parties at risk of failing to cross the electoral threshold.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 No major changes in the posture of U.S. military aircraft across bases in the Middle East have been observed. This remains a key indicator to monitor when assessing the likelihood of a potential escalation against Iran.
So far, there are no clear signs that the U.S. military is preparing for a major operation against Iran, though this could change after the U.S. midterm elections.

Greece is leading the Security Council at an important moment for the United Nations, with a clear focus on effective multilateralism, international law and peace and security.
I also greatly appreciate Greece’s support for my candidacy. These are principles I would work to advance every day as Secretary-General.
