Someone has put this puppy in a bag and thrown the bag in this field. Luckily a person walking by had looked inside the bag and found the puppy exhausted and dehydrated. We rescued the pup a little while ago from wattala area. @EmbarkLK

Our feeding rounds for areas that were affected by the floods continues. We feed around 100 - 150 a day. Life is not back to normal in many places, leaving the dogs hungry without their usual feeders. Many don’t have the infrastructure of their kitchens to cook anymore as well. We will continue our feeding rounds this week. @EmbarkLK

From rescue day to recovery. Welina was rescued in June and after treatment she was adopted. She is now healthy and happy in her new home ❤️ @EmbarkLK

What an incredible team effort it was today! We rescued all the dogs trapped on the first floor of this house in Malabe. Since all the entrances were underwater, they had to go through a window. The dogs scattered and ran in many directions, the mum was scared and aggressive as well. The waters were rising and it was also cold! It took almost four hours but they are all now safe. Their owners were also with us. Amazing work by the Embark and Tails of freedom team, volunteers Naveen and Dilmini and all others from the area who helped. A lady who was stuck in her house was also rescued. The dogs are with us at Embark until the water recedes and family can go back home. Sending so much love to the families affected by the floods. Many of the houses were not even visible as they were completely underwater. It is such a terrible tragic situation for so many. A situation that no one should have to face. @EmbarkLK @tailsoffreedom1

Hundreds of people shared this video of the dogs stuck on the roof. They had been there for three days with no food and no one could get to them. We found a boat and managed to finally get to them. We also rescued three kittens from a roof top and two puppies from a roof. This was a rescue done at Kolonnawa. @EmbarkLK

Emergency rescue last night of a dog in Angoda who had been stuck on a roof for several days during the floods and didn’t have a way to get down once the water receded. (Flood rescue - Embark, Sri Lanka) @EmbarkLK

Rescue of Pearl yesterday. She was run over by a car and both her back legs are damaged. Luckily no broken bones but part of the bone is exposed due to the deep wound. She is safe in hospital now receiving treatment. @EmbarkLK

Today is World Animal Day. We are only whole and prosperous when we live as one with other species who share our country and world with us. A harmonious way of life with all beings, is the only way forward for a better brighter future for all lives. 🐘🐄🐘🐋🦎🐈🐕🦜

I visited the zoo yesterday after quite a few years. A zoo especially the Dehiwala zoo is not a place I go to anymore, unless it’s for a specific purpose. I did also see the bear which many have shared lately. In such pain and despair of his life and so deserving of a life of freedom and rehabilitation in a sanctuary. Many have asked for his rescue, however he is under the care of the government and the zoological gardens. I truly hope they will have the heart and compassion to speak to an International bear rescue organisation and give him the life he deserves. We as country are better than this, to profit and be accepting of such suffering is not who we are or want to be known for.

Round two of the free veterinary treatment and vaccination program in Bandaragama to help the pets in the community. The program supports families who are finding it difficult to treat their dogs due to their current financial circumstances. Over 150 dogs turned up with their family!
