The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k…

- Russia has a massive logistics problem in Donbas, as Ukrainian drones are destroying its vehicles. - The Kremlin informs the White House about this problem. - Musk, Trump, and Hegseth throttle Starlink in Ukraine, hampering Ukrainian drone strikes. - Trump and his pals are promised lucrative business deals with Russia. - Thousands of Ukrainians die, while Russia threatens to seize even more territory. I've never witnessed such a betrayal in my life.
russia has run into serious problems with its offensive in Donbas, where its forces have become bogged down. One of the main reasons was that russian logistics had been crippled by Ukrainian drone strikes. This campaign depended heavily on Starlink terminals operating on high-speed Ukrainian drones. russian military command identified this as a critical problem and approached the American side, asking it to restrict the speeds at which Starlink terminals could operate. The argument was simple: there would be little public backlash because the US could still claim that Starlink was operational and that the service was still being provided. The Trump administration agreed to the restrictions, effectively solving a critical battlefield problem for Russia. As a result, russian logistics in Donbas are now safer, and Ukraine has lost an important advantage on the battlefield.

Oh no I only get 5 weeks of vacation a year from the job where it's illegal to fire me, and all it leads to is a retirement where I'll make even more money somehow. I must loot this Gamestop for le liberté.

Zelensky is bombing oil factories to harm republicans in the midterms
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Ukraine has long struck Russian oil refineries to disrupt war funding and respond to Russian attacks on its energy grid, per Zelensky. He has offered to halt if Russia does the same. No evidence indicates a motive to affect US midterms. abcnews.com/Politics/presi… washingtonpost.com/investigations… euromaidanpress.com/2026/10/12/zel…

It is infuriating realizing how much these mobsters cost us. If they died off and we got automated ports, we could be so much wealthier, so much more resilient, and so much less at risk of being held hostage by these evil men again.
Two years ago today this man told us "I will cripple you" (referring to the entire U.S. economy) if we didn't give his east coast port union workers what they wanted (60%+ wage increases and a pledge of no automation of our ports). It worked btw, he got all his demands.

Had this man not found the courage to fight back after being repeatedly attacked with an axe capable of cutting through metal—while bleeding profusely—and had the presence mind to trigger the hijack/emergency code, initiate the emergency response and open the cockpit door to allow passengers to assist him, the aircraft’s subsequent dive could have had catastrophic consequences. Had that aircraft not been recovered, the geopolitical consequences for the Middle East could have been profound and potentially irreversible. Sometimes history turns on the courage, resilience and presence of mind of one person. Yes. One Indian man.

There’s a pretty simple explanation for that UT photo. For years, the top 6% of Texas high school students got automatic admission to UT. Now it’s the top 5%. It’s completely colorblind. It’s just class rank. Asian kids are about 5% of Texas graduates, but roughly 21% of the kids hitting a 1180 SAT/24 ACT benchmark. Absolutely kicking ass. And UT’s own numbers make the “foreign students” explanation pretty hard to square. Only about 4% of UT undergrads are international students. What we’re looking at is immigrants and the children of immigrants doing all the things YOU SAID you wanted immigrants to do: come here legally, work hard / succeed academically, and assimilate into our culture. Check. Check. Check. I’m starting to think your problem with this picture might be something else entirely....
I heard UT graduation this year looked like this. I didn’t believe it. The problem is now obviously far worse than anyone imagined.

Not to use a sports metaphor, but there’s a concept called plate discipline and more people in politics desperately need it. Talarico made a rational, compassionate statement that reflects where most voters are. Calling that “capitulating to fascism” is childish politics masquerading as moral seriousness. You win elections by persuading people who don’t already agree with you. You make voters feel safe voting for you and show them you’ll govern for them too. “Adopt every one of my positions or you’re a fascist” isn’t a coalition. It’s a tantrum.
well it turns out give democrats a choice of "capitulate to fascism" or "support minority groups" they'll always end up capitulating to fascism. a shame they don't stand with the trans community, can't blame trans people that can't bring themselves to support democrats

NATO did not expand eastward. The former victims of Russian imperialism turned westward. This is an absolutely critical distinction. Every single new NATO member since 1991 has applied to join the alliance and has been motivated by a desire to protect themselves against Russia

For the record, this is false. Complete fiction.
Ha'aretz reports that Hamas, through Qatar, conveyed immediately on Oct. 7 that they were willing to return all the civilian hostages for nothing -- their only ask was for a mediator to arrange the exchange and establish a connection to then negotiate the further release of the soldiers. Israel refused to talk or hear about it. So Qatar reached out to Antony Blinken to let him know that Hamas was willing to release all the civilian hostages. Blinken told Qatar he didn't want to hear it because "Israel is still under attack, and there's no one to talk to." Blinken had the opportunity to free every single civilian hostage and de-escalate the situation. Instead he wanted war.

After YEARS of toxic peer pressure purity testing dominating the online left, I'm so glad to join the (female-led!) wave of brave outspoken liberalism. We all want fair economic prosperity. But socialism just isn't the only or best way to do that. I'm sorry, it's just not.
I love that you guys are still mad about this four years later. Okay sure, I'll get up for round two.
