Ethiopia’s publicly funded arsenal risks serving the UAE’s geopolitical ambitions and prolonging Abiy Ahmed’s rule rather than ensuring national stability.
Since 2023, the Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM) has emerged as a significant force. Through the Alliance for Survival, it seeks to reshape the Horn of Africa’s balance of power and advance a regional peace framework.
The international community must reassess its approach to Ethiopia. Unconditional support for Abiy Ahmed’s administration, amid grave allegations of atrocities and genocide, is indefensible without accountability and independent scrutiny.
Weapons cannot buy legitimacy. Military power cannot replace public trust.
