‘Do this in remembrance of me.’
Today is Remembrance Sunday and of course the month of the Holy Souls. Yesterday, prior to the AGM of the Guild, the National Director celebrated Mass with the intention for all deceased members of the Guild. We particularly remember those who have gone before us in the last year and on this Remembrance Sunday, those servers who made the ultimate sacrifice in conflict for the cause of peace.

“For all the saints, who from their labors rest…”
It’s is November and the Solemnity of All Saints has conveniently and joyfully landed itself on the Sunday. Pope Leo said yesterday: On the eve of All Saints' Day, we remember that God calls everyone to be a saint. We are invited, therefore, to ensure that every aspect of our lives, will help us to love God and our neighbour. No one is born a champion, just as no one is born a saint. Rather, holiness requires a daily training in love.

“The altar server often holds a candle in his hand. How can we not think of what Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount: "You are the light of the world" (Mt 5,14). Your service cannot be restricted to the inside of a church. It must shine out in your every day life: at school, in the family and in the different social contexts, for those who want to serve Jesus Christ in a church must be his witnesses everywhere.“ - St Pope John-Paul II.
We welcome the ordination to the Episcopate and installation today of Bishop Stephen Wang to the See of Arundel and Brighton which was vacated by our Superior General Archbishop Richard Moth, when he translated to Westminster earlier this year.

The Sunday has displaced the Feast of St Luke the Evangelist, who was a partner of Paul and the author of the Acts of the Apostles.
At Mass today we begin to hear the first of Paul’s letters, to the Thessalonians in modern day Greece.

"You are a wonderful reminder to everyone of the importance of the sacrifice of the Mass in our lives and in the life of the whole world." +Moth
Last Saturday the National Mass was held at Westminster Cathedral where we welcomed over 500 servers from across 15 of dioceses of England and Wales, a post-pandemic record.
The archbishop preached on the martyrdom of our patron St Stephen, how the word martyr means ‘witness’ and how all who serve at the altar are visible ‘witnesses’ to faith and the importance of the server in the liturgy.
You can read his full homily, find all the photos and the Order of Service at the link below. Our thanks to all who helped arrange this special day in advance and on the day. Our thanks also to the Choir of Gunnersbury Catholic School and the Westminster Diocese Comms team for the photos.
If you have any photos let us know by tagging us in your social post or email to [email protected].
