There appears to be huge anger and across the nationalist & republican base. They are catching on how Sinn Fein have been gaslighting them, but are unable to deliver even the most basic outcomes for their own supporters.
They canโt even build a GAA stadium in west Belfast.
They canโt impose an Irish language strategy. Indeed, in the Irish language legal case, it was exposed that it was Sinn Fein departments blocking progress, contrary to their rhetorically boisterous public statements blaming big bad unionists.
A border poll is off the table. Drumcree is back on it.
The A5, agreed by the Executive (no โbig bad unionistsโ blocking it) canโt be built because itโs being blocked by legislation passed by Sinn Fein (to which unionists objected), and a Sinn Fein Minister is responsible for the project (DFI, Liz Kimmins).
All of this is leading to the type of angry (and strategically disastrous- for them) outbursts and feet stamping we have seen this week, no more so than on the Garvaghy Road by angry Michelle OโNeill (the โFirst Minister for allโ smiley image is slipping) and an obstinate Catherine Nelson.
Nationalism is in a tailspin, and unionism is energised- and for the first time in 30 years using the courts successfully.
