For those thinking Barry's flooding was unusual for Texas, it is not
This is a table from the 2018 AMS hurricane conference presentation I authored along with Cameron Self
The Barry rain is nowhere near as bad as it gets for Texas

There’s been…frankly a *lot* of disingenuous information from preteens on this app aimed at scaring people who are going to be impacted by svr wx on Sat.
There’s still a LOT of uncertainty. Saturday has the looks of a severe weather outbreak, but a lot* more data is needed!!!

I called out this climate lunatic once before, and he blocked me, but I'll do it again.
Wildfires are NOT a result, or even related in the slightest to "climate change". This event is a very rare combination of factors coming together to support intense, fast spreading fires.

#Hurricane #Milton is poised to be the 5th hurricane to make landfall along the US Gulf Coast this year (Beryl, Debby, Francine, Helene). That would tie 2024 with 2005 and 2020 for 2nd most Gulf hurricane landfalls on record, trailing only 1886 (6 Gulf hurricane landfalls).

Please consider this post as educational and informative - the only intent with which it was posted. Catastrophic inland flooding from far away landfalling hurricanes is nothing new to the Appalachian Mountains. Tropical moisture forced up high terrain is the recipe for major and sometimes historic rainfall. #NCwx #SCwx @WMBFnews

Last image of a wife and husband in Asheville, NC sheltering from the flood on a roof.
The roof would soon collapse, causing them and their 6 year old grandchild to drown.
Their daughter and mother of the child took the photograph.
When the roof collapsed, she got wedged between debris and was able to be rescued an hour later.
And things are way way worse in Burnsville. These pictures need to reach people.

Today in 2004, Hurricane Charley made landfall in southwest Florida as a strong category 4 with 150mph winds. Damage totaled $16 billion and at the time, was the 2nd costliest hurricane in U.S. history only behind Category 5 Andrew in 1992 ($27.3 billion).

Atlantic seasonal #hurricane forecast from @ColoradoStateU calls for very active season: 23 named storms, 11 hurricanes & 5 major hurricanes. Extremely warm tropical Atlantic and likely #LaNina are the primary reasons.

The Atlantic MDR is the warmest I’ve ever seen it this time of the year. If these extremely warm anomalies persist into the Summer, a hyperactive Atlantic hurricane season is likely. Especially with the Pacific transitioning to La Niña. #TropicalUpdate 🌀🔥📈

This is one of the most chilling discussions ever written by the NHC. This truly is a nightmare scenario.
If you know someone in Acapulco, tell them they need to find a VERY strong building well above sea level, and have a helmet on overnight. #Otis

I’ve signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency for 33 counties in preparation for Invest 93L. Issuing this order today ensures communities have time to prepare for the storm system which could have impacts along the Gulf Coast next week.
Floridians should have a plan and a stocked supply kit and follow @FLSERT for updates.

M5.0 near Ojai, north of Ventura. I cannot emphasize this enough -- this earthquake is **NOT** related to the tropical storm. #earthquake
