Former Global Lead for Creators on Apex Legends, Destiny, and Discord. I connect creators and brands here. Author of In Game Menu + Ultimate Gamers Cookbook

Hi just responding to DM's right now but answering one on the public thread: Yes I am literally going to amplify every single post, tweet, blog, and video that has brands or developers offering opportunities, codes or interest to creators. 11 years doing this work and it's still not easy for the vast majority, and while big creators are paid over $200k - 500k just to show up and post, I'm still helping out everyone grinding to make this things work. So If you're a creator looking for dev and brand info I will look for you, and if you're a brand that can't afford a 6 figure agency - I got you or I can help you connect with dope boutique agencies.

Inevitably BioWare veterans will recover and jump into the opportunity to build upon their vision. They'll showcase what real experience looks like. And eventually when the announcement for "Lyrium games", "Relay" or "open Palm studios" gets announced I'll be one of the first in line to make sure and participate in making sure they are successful.

BioWare has always inspired us, and it's hard to say goodbye to our idols. Thank you for everything, @BioWare. Many of us wouldn’t be in the games industry without your legacy.

Spoiler alert. He is very right
There's a wide problem right now where LIVE-service games are struggling to sell DLC. This will probably lead to increasingly ridiculous, over-the-top skins to grab attention. Problem is, the quality of the DLC isn't the issue. It's that nobody has disposable income right now.

[Opposable Thumbs] EA acquires Bioware, Pandemic -

Reminder: - EA cancelled the Single Player Dragon Age 4 in development from 2015-2017 - Pushed them to create a live service Dragon Age because of trend chasing. They considered multiplayer the future of gaming, "nobody plays single player games anymore" except then Jedi Fallen Order released with huge success and they pivoted again. - After 3 years of development on Live Service Age from 2018-2021, EA & Bioware decide to remove the Multiplayer component but instead of rebooting a second time they gave them 18 months to rip out all that live service work and have them make it a single player game AGAIN, at a significant disadvantage to meet expectations. - Six years of wasted development now, when a lot of the series veterans had been laid off or quit out of frustration with EA along with numerous management and staff changes. Among these names are David Gaider, Mike Laidlaw, and later before Veilguard's release Mary Kirby. Her departure was an abysmal sign for the future of DA before this next game had even released. - This resulted in the announcement of Dragon Age Dreadwolf in 2022, later renamed Veilguard which retained the scars of it's live service development when it released in 2024 and was never the true game Bioware would have given us if they hadn't been constantly fucked around. We could and should have had the intended Dragon Age 4 before 2020, instead it took almost a DECADE for the follow up. The worst things these companies do is trend chase something, with zero foresight on temporary trends. By the time you release that game public opinion has shifted. Rocksteady's Suicide Squad as a clear example of this too. Just let creative people make something they are passionate about and stop putting them in boxes. Let developers make something real by giving them time and resources to deliver something memorable with a clear goal, not a post mortem example like Anthem on how not to develop a game. EA has been fucking over Bioware basically since they acquired them. Issues with Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard aside as yes all three have their issues and you'll even have people going back to Mass Effect 3/DA2/Inquisition with issues as well; a lot of this comes from a long long period of EA pushing Bioware into a corner and then watching them be a punching bag for it. It also comes from internal schisms within Bioware where there was a strange Mass Effect vs Dragon Age rift and David Gaider said they may as well have been two different studios with how the culture was different, plus the writers getting fucked over at every turn. People taking the lowest hanging fruit possible and are gonna just say it was Veilguard, it was Anthem, it was Andromeda etc that sealed their fate when in actual reality it was a long list of issues going back 15+ years that led to the issues within those games in the first place.
Veilguard did not kill BioWare. Private equity killed BioWare. Money killed BioWare. Corporate greed killed BioWare. Shut the fuck up about wokeness and Veilguard for fuck’s sake. Holy shit

I've seen quite a few Discord servers and talent management teams try to provide this as a service but it's limited. Plenty of large creator programs have also failed to maintain this because they don't invest. So I'm curious: if there was an agnostic platform that could really pull this off and their primary goal was to make sure creators got what they needed would it be helpful?
Can someone invent a website where streamers sign up and are like: "hey I stream on XYZ days and these are the games I play, lemme know if you wanna collab" and other people can search for games & find you & be like 'yo I'm down' ?

When I see this on top of all the other complete s*** news we've seen recently, I realized it's going to be a decade before we really start to fix things.
This is disgusting...

I was just talking to a GameStop employee and told them the news. They didn't really understand. But essentially explaining that over the last 10 years imagine being pushed in a direction that you don't want to take the studio, being asked to work on features and games that you're not interested in, getting denied the ability to engage with the work that your team wants to do all to be shut down and blamed for not having the right investment.
I just very luckily grabbed every physical copy of Bioware's titles, Lord knows we can't trust those to be available unaltered or at all in the future.

This Kira guy is crafty He may have insider information. To be sure lets keep note of the most important men of our staff and their most feared ways to die. That will help us keep track
Who is the dumbest character who could get away with using the death note, assuming L would be on the case?

Okay last note and then I'm going to leave it alone. I am speaking to content creators when I say this: A good potential investment for your content is to start building knowledge and relationships with "ugc creators". These are the people and studios that make experiences and mods for: - Roblox - Minecraft Marketplace - Fallout/Starfield and Bethesda - Fortnite creation This is a severely underserved community and both parties have a lot of opportunities to work with each other. You're going to see more experiences, levels, and evolution in this space that will compete with the extremely competitive Indie scene on steam. It's been like this for years but now there's real opportunity for you. That's why I hope to see XP, Epic, and others show real leadership in the space

To creators posting on YouTube, IG, Twitter, and streaming on Twitch: Remember, not too long ago, brands said it wasn't worth giving you early access. You didn't deserve review codes because you weren't press, and they couldn't trust you with interviews, previews, and promotional campaigns. - Now all the work you do is nearly 50% of every single marketing team's focus. - Your favorite AAA brands spend $5-$25 million a year just to promote games with creators and streamers - Look at how many folks who used to work for the big press outlets are now content creators - and now, recognize the trust placed in communities over traditional media It's not perfect; it's still in motion, and we're still figuring things out, but don't for a second assume what you're building isn't valuable. Don't be deterred by the macro creators getting 7-figure deals. Lean into your work and what you want to build, and the rest comes.

I still remember convincing Telltale to give an early copy of Minecraft Story Mode I remember manually getting capture stations ready at E3 to let creators record their own footage and begging Bandai to let us capture Tekken footage I remember asking Square Enix for permission to Stream Sleeping Dogs at Embargo (You used to have to clear this) It's all still new but it's awesome to remember these moments of progression

We're trying something different this year. I'm honored to be speaking on stage with other professionals at GamesBeat NEXT this year. If you have time to connect at the show and you're thinking deeply about the next decade of the creator industry (both content and UGC), I'd love to connect. For folks who are curious, this show features CEOs, founders, investors, CMOs, and technology leaders chatting about gaming, AI, mobile, entertainment, and global platforms. Let me know if there are any insights I should be chasing! Codeword is: Focaccia
