Worrisome moms and dads are tracking their adult children at uni and even organising their lives for them. There's been plenty of talk about the benefits of a 'smartphone-free childhood', but maybe we need more smartphone-free parenting ✍️ @TheCriticMag thecritic.co.uk/its-time-for…

Normal people expect the rate of violent crime (especially of a sexual kind) by refugees who have been allowed into the country to be zero. Liberal managerialists haven't grasped this, and their attempts to dismiss attacks by migrants as marginal are deeply unconvincing.

Wessex after the "Treaty" of Trianon
The Wessex Mayoralty has been approved by the government, after years of campaigning from Dorset, BCP, Somerset, and Wiltshire councils. This has sent me down a rabbit hole of how many different definitions of "Wessex" there are in use today. 🧵👇

Admittedly there is a lot of news today, but it seems a bit odd that the trial of a man who stabbed 13 people during a multi-day rampage is only visible on the BBC News website if you navigate to the UK>England section, and is only the fourth most prominent story even there.

You also get this when Islamists in Britain advocate for blasphemy laws, usually with analogies that (very wrongly) assume Christianity holds as central and sacrosanct a position in mainstream British culture as Islam does in theirs. "What if I graffiti'd a CHURCH?!"

A sad tone when Healey talks about "losing two million council homes". Not sure those who bought their house under right to buy would feel that way...

Sweeney himself has obviously been a few nairas short of a rupee for some time now, but this is an important story in terms of what it tells us about how poor a grasp of basic democratic norms the people running and working in our schools have.

Idea banter outcome because they obviously want to sack him over the international break once they've got Howe or whoever lined up, but we always lose at Old Trafford so they'll have to hang onto him even longer #avfc
Michael Carrick will be given more time to turn Manchester United's fortunes around after a meeting of the club's hierarchy on Monday. Carrick's position as head coach appeared under serious threat following Sunday's 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth, a result which left United 16th and without a win in their last eight matches in all competitions. However, following talks on Monday between the club's senior leadership figures, including co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, the decision has been made to give Carrick and the players more time. Here is the Home Secretary back in February contradicting Andy Burnham's claims today. She confirmed that the small boats have NOTHING to do with Brexit - and that the Dublin returns scheme did not work. She also noted that we never knew how many were arriving in lorries...
Interesting difference between the PM and his Home Secretary over Brexit and small boats. Andy Burnham today blamed the crisis on Britain losing its EU returns agreement after Brexit but Shabana Mahmood has previously rejected that argument. She told the Home Affairs Committee in February: "I am sure there are lots of other debates to be had about the rights and wrongs of Brexit, but is Brexit responsible for the boats? I do not think that is true... “The idea that this has happened because we have lost the access to Dublin and the returns agreement with the EU - I think that is too much of a stretch.” In September, she went further, arguing that under Britain's one-in, one-out deal with France “more returns have happened than ever was the case under the Dublin arrangements, when we were still members of the EU". She also warned that it was “a mistake to see the EU’s new pact as some sort of new silver bullet” that would eliminate Britain's migration problems.

They've redefined 'populism' as being anti-immigration, tough on crime, and/or Eurosceptic Free money and nice-sounding gimmicks used to be called left-wing populism but they've rebranded that as just 'retail politics' (see: Burnham, Andy)
>Bad day for illiberal populists >Lula da Silva Are any of these people sapient? Do they ever think to themselves "what do the words 'liberal' and 'populist' actually mean"?

Almost everything Burnham says in this piece is a lie. - We didn't get a "harder" Brexit than what was mentioned in the Referendum. We left with the most comprehensive trade agreement the EU has ever signed. - The small boats crisis didn't emerge because of losing "returns agreements". While we were in the EU we were a net-, recipient of illegal immigrants from these agreements, the small boats crisis has emerged because of a global surge in illegal immigration and pull-factors like our human rights laws. - Immigration within the EU was not "revolving door". It has been permanent, and significantly more than estimated at the time. Over 6 million people have come here on the EU Settlement scheme, double estimated. The Prime Minister is dishonest and cynical, planning to hand border control to the EU, and likely pay them British taxpayers money while he's at it. – at Merton, London
Exclusive from @benclatworthy Britain is holding talks with the EU about a potential return to free movement and other options for closer alignment The Times has been told that the UK is discussing a series of options about the future relationship which are due to be unveiled within weeks Andy Burnham plans to set out his vision for closer ties with the bloc, including the potential of rejoining the union, and have a “conversation with the British public about our long-term future” The options that will be presented are being discussed with officials in Brussels to ensure both sides would ultimately be able to agree One source said all such routes would be “discussed using diplomatic channels” before any “big bang” launch of the options on the table thetimes.com/article/4ef6707…

Leave aside the historic silliness of his statement, he then goes on to claim “a smaller economy, fewer jobs”, neither of which is true in London or nationally, something the BBC would label misinformation if claimed in the other direction.
'Leaving the European Union was the biggest act of economic self harm any country has ever committed' Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, told #BBCBreakfast Andy Burnham 'is spot on' about having an "honest discussion" ove the prospect of returning to free movement between the UK and European Union bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8e3…

Why aren't they asking the real questions on voters' minds, like "Mr Farage, your campaign seems to have the momentum of a runaway freight train, why are you so popular?"
Christopher Hope’s performance is textbook lobby cartel behavior. Farage and Jenrick stood up to deliver a serious, structural 64-point economic rescue blueprint to salvage a bankrupt country, and the very first question from "the people's channel" wasn't about productivity, £40bn in Whitehall cuts, or tax relief. It was a sneering, gossip-column attack about room capacity and a cherry-picked Ipsos poll. GB News built its entire brand promising to be the insurgent antidote to the BBC, yet the moment Reform puts forward real alternative governance, @christopherhope sounds indistinguishable from a Guardian lobby intern doing a hatchet job for the Tory rump. @GBNEWS

Labour is really memeing itself into giving ILR to care workers (cost a fortune, will leave the care sector when they get it) but keeping stricter standards for bankers.

The real answer to these criteria is 'nobody' because they're not on the manager: it's the hierarchy, players, and yes, fans who can't handle a rough patch, can't handle the media circus, and won't back a manager to reshape the squad. We've seen this over and over again!

This, incidentally, is why no elite manager has touched the Man U job since Mourinho a decade ago: they all know it's nothing but virtually guaranteed reputational damage they don't need. Emery knows this arguably more than any of them #avfc
